I have found it an excellent resource when preparing teaching materials for Foundation Degree levels and the Certificate in Personnel Practice and for higher level Human Resource Management, and have referred ... ...find it very relevant in my role in HR.
It provides excellent description of the basic managment theories, with case study examples and assignments for each chapter. It is also supported by a companion website with further resources. Too much sport, coach, not enough buisiness
Advantages: Good practice, practicaly grounded Disadvantages: Too much in the world of sport. Based on unreasonable expectations

I agree with what I think are the core ideas of the book – that on the whole people know more ... ...all in favor to the coaching methodology, rather than a purely ‘instructional’ one in training etc. However I am less convinced that *everybody* wants to change, and still less that purely focussing on objective observation brings about effortless improvement, which appears to be a key tenant of belief. “Letting go of trying to force the correction [e.g. by trying to improve] … allows the correction to take place effortlessly ...

SPC - Increase profit by reducing waste
Advantages: Improves profit by reducing business waste Disadvantages: Needs a little application
...and subjects covered go beyond SPC into analysis and 6 sigma variation without the reader noticing they they’ve been taken that far. All equations are noted and it even provides an easy guide to what buttons to press on a standard calculator. One of the main myths about S.P.C. is that it is pure statistics and the preserve of the mathematician. This ebook shows this is untrue and illustrates how (with a modicum of training) anyone capable of following ... ...from something in its range. They say a picture is worth a thousand words – well there are a lot of them in here, so this is a recommendation. Further reading:

Interviewing from the other side of the desk
Advantages: Good, clear, practically oriented introduction Disadvantages: It is only an introduction
...to reach those goals) and interviewing skills (accurate questioning, active listening etc) as equally important to a successful outcome. Having had the opportunity for giving some mock interviewing, the importance of planning good questions as discussed here has really been driven home! Obviously, because of the scale of the subject, this slim volume can only be an introduction. However it is a useful, practical guide, and one that avoids a lot of ... ...is also remarkably well priced at only £8. The Industrial Society is a cross-sector body, committed to the development of people, and of good practise in business across Europe. The author is a professional writer on training and Human Resources, which you can see in the well structured, well explained style of the text.
