Advantages: Basic in design and foolproof Disadvantages: None that I can envisage
I Recently purchased 234RC Head, First time use proved to be either too stiff or too slack in operation with a 50-500 zoom. I dismantled the head for a quick look and found a disc of friction material of approximately 25mm outside diameter x 6mm bore. In a similar manner to another review of this item, I fitted P.T.F.E. shims cut out from sheet material and fitted these in place of the original friction disc. When dismantled, friction disc originally fits in a recess. I used 1 off 1mm shim at opposite end to recess to avoid metal to metal contact, and 2 pieces 1mm shim with a 6mm I/D-25mm O/D washer sandwiched between to make a shim-pack to fill recess. While you are at it, replace the 6mm x 65mm bolt with a stainless steel item.
Similarly with Manfrotto 680 or other model monopod where all 5mm mild steel screws and nuts were replaced ...
Advantages: Sturdy, Precise, Hard wearing finishes, Robust materials Disadvantages: None (probably too heavy for a 35mm format camera user)
Manfrotto makes 'un-complicated' tripods and this tool is simply one of the best tripods of its grade. The detailing, colour and finishes are very classic and robust at the same time. I use a Hasselblad V system and the 055D meets all my requirements on location.
One should also carefully choose the ideal head for the camera. The pan 'lock-in levers' on my ManfrottoBallHead are built and finished very well (this head can easily support a medium format camera at any angle). The matt steel finish is very hard-wearing and overall a very smart looking Tripod.
The tripod requires less maintenance as well.
PROS: Good Weight, Ideal for Architectural, Interior and on-site work. Value for money. Long lasting.
CONS: None. ...

Manufacturer's product description
The 468MGRC2 incorporates the same "world first" hydraulic ball-locking system as the 468MG, and uses Manfrotto's popular RC2 Rapid Connect Plate, which is small and light enough to leave permanently attached to your compact or SLR camera even when not using a tripod.Using hydraulics instead of a mechanical system produces a super-tight lock from a minimal turn of the locking knob, without sacrificing the smoothness of the ball's movement when unblocked. The 468MG series is designed to meet the demands of professional photographers who require a lightweight head but at the same time being able to support heavy camera loads up to 35lbs! The 468MGRC2 borrows the popular features found on Manfrotto's standard range of ball heads - such as independent pan and tilt locks with a 360° pan movement and +90° / -90° tilt movement. To keep weight low, the head is made of magnesium; and to provide smooth movements, the 1 1/4" aluminum ball is Teflon coated. The oversized ball-locking knob allows for easy control even when using gloves. The 468MGRC2 also has a graduated engraved panoramic base.
