Walking along Oxford Street my eyes twitch in excitement. Clothes, shoes, handbags… candy for the eyes! Oh Geez, why am I such a fashion victim? Why can I not control those cravings for more new garments, which are absolutely unnecessary?
Maybe psychiatric help is the solution… but hold on a second I can’t just walk past Mango without having just a little glance. Promise I’ll be no longer than five minutes. In know within myself even before I step inside that five minutes for three floors of Mango clothing is virtually impossible.
The shop is bright the white walls and the light reflecting directly on them is very inviting and makes me feel very welcome. Come in, buy me, buy me…
Structure of the shop
Mango is structured in such a way that you see both the sales and the new collection at the same time. The light, which I must say is placed in such a clever way that it seems to shine brighter on the non reduced items is on the right side of the shop. Here the winter selection with the latest range of suits, coats, jackets is arranged in such a way that only a minimal amount is visible.
This gives an air of exclusivity, which makes everyone feel special to be browsing in this area. In the middle of the basement are tables of sales clothes such as t-shirts, casual wear and knitted cardigans, which appear to be in a mess compared to the organised non sale section.
On the left side is the customer service area and the tills where a long Q is causing me to swallow hard. There goes my five minute target. Next to each till the clever management has decided to place bowls of fruit flavoured sweets with their crisp Mango wrappers to keep customers busy while they are waiting. What do they think?! Do they think they can fool us?! I shall have some sweets later!
There are stairs and escalators leading to both the first and the second floor. The second floor seems to be the brightest as it has all the cheap stuff they need to get rid off. I am in my element as I do like to search for a bargain. I discover this bright yellow top. I think wicked! All I need is some sunshine for a bit of a tan and presto, world here I come!
There are changing facilities on each floor and the Q’s are not that long for London standards, if you are however desperate to get out within five minutes, don’t even think about it. The changing cabin is very simple but bright enough to show how exactly you will look if you wear this out!
There is an element of wood included in their theme as some of the natural colours are stacked on wooden blocks to give a warmer feel to the shop. This helps minimize the brightness created by the light walls and their spot lights.
Allegedly the shop, which is 3,880 sqm big, cost £3 million to develop and costs £1.5 million to rent. Other big Mango stores can be found in Regent Street and Covent Garden. For more information about your nearest store call 020 7240 6099. The quality
I have now been in the shop for almost 20 minutes and am holding three sales tops and one pair of non sale brown tweed trousers that flare out but sit low on the waste. The trousers seem hard wearing and one of the tops is micro fibre, which should feel like second skin. What I need is something I can wear and wash and wear and wash…
Materials used for the winter selection is made of amongst others wool, leather, cotton and denim and are not always the best quality. Don’t get me wrong they do sell garments that are of superior quality but they could never compete with say, Miss Sixty. One can tell though, some of their products have been designed and manufactured quickly to sell cheaply and fast, which reflects in Mango prices.
The sales range is mostly light fabrics such as micro fibre, cotton, and lighter denim. The dresses feel very comfortable on the skin and make me feel like a princess.
The range, price and variety
Mango caters for all styles from casual to evening and from formal to sports wear. You can get three quarter length trousers, jerseys, coats, handbags, dungarees, jumpers, skirts, jackets, dresses, shoes, and belts in the Regent Street Mango.
The winter season compared to other retailers will have more of the lighter colours included in its range such as camel, stone, neutral and off white. For the slightly braver ones amongst you there are pink colours available for those who like to be the centre of attention in their pink pants.
The sales stock is fun and includes bold colours and designs that would stop granny in the street! I am now holding my bright yellow top, a green off the shoulder top with a wack print and a white V neck that is impossible to wear without bra due to nip alarm (girls you know what I mean).
The sizes, which range from 6-16 in some shops, I must admit, come up a bit small with regards to trousers (remember J-Lo butt) and I have to opt for the size 12 for anything that does not stretch. The tops are a perfect fit in size 10 and so are the dresses. Maybe one day I will design the perfect pair of jeans for the big butt girl to satisfy myself.
Prices at Mango during sales for sales items can start from as little as £3 and go up to about £60. Non sale items start from about £10 and normally go up to about £90 unless it is leather, which can go up to £120. This for me personally is a good price range as I like to get loads for my money.
The service
The sales assistants seem to be all Latin American, Spanish or Italian, which is not surprising as it is a Spanish company with the head office in Palau-Solità i Plegamans (Barcelona). They currently employ around 5.000 people of whom the majority is in Spain. It seems natural to them to be smiling all the time while the Latin American music is playing in the background. If you are lucky and it’s not busy you might even catch some of them doing the salsa behind the till.
They will help you if you are looking for a certain style, material or colour but geez don’t even think about asking for a size. “Can you not see, all sizes are out!? Mama Mia.”
Those at the till seem to be the happiest it seems as they don’t have to run behind the punters to fold up the mess they leave behind. They smile while the wrap up your clothes in an elegant white sheet before placing it inside a stylish paper bag. That’s when I take a plunge into the sweet bowl. The clever management got me again!
Their Website
Mango’s website is not excellent as it takes hours to load all the images of their range but is good for those who prefer offline shopping. It outlines prizes, colours, style and variety and gives the closes match to your selection. I am not an online shopper and like the real thing in my face so I leave it to you to decide what you think of their website.
Five minute target
As to the matter of how long it took me to enter Mango purchase a white top, a yellow halter neck top, a green off the shoulder top and a pair of tweed trousers, well I have to say 45 minutes is more realistic than five.
However, me being the fashion victim I am, I must say I am proud of myself as this is actually quite a reasonable time I kept there.
If you have never experienced Mango it’s high time you did because it caters for every girls’ needs. Try it and let me know.
I love shopping at Mango. This is strange from me that I hate shopping for clothes but this place is different. First, the music is not loud and let you relax. The space is open, well light, with cream, white or silver colours. Things are not crammed: nor the shop with clothes only against the walls and right in the center, leaving plenty of space to move around. Neither the rails, with just enough clothes that you can look at properly. Everything ... ...bit of expensive, luxurious place, only that this time you can afford it. Prices are still high street though top end (think of Oasis). Then the clothes: This is the place where I go to buy smart outfits for the office which can be easily transformed for the evening. Evening dresses are just beautiful. And accessories: belts, shoes, bags look like designer items. They do basics really well, too: I got a few tops that are among the best in my wardrobe. ...

Advantages: Good quality, nice styles Disadvantages: Depending on the season limited colour choice
...have only ever been in Mango twice yet I feel compelled to write about it mainly to gain the feedback of my fellow Ciao members. The first time I visited Mango, I was in awe of the great clothes, nice colours and wide range of selection. I ended up purchasing a pair of white, light weight trousers for about £30 (which is more than I usually spend on any item of clothing) because the impulse to buy something was overpowering. My poor boyfriend had ... ...I visited the (fairly) new Mango shop on Oxford Street and was bitterly disapointed. It may be the season's colours that just aren't for me, however the racks were thin with selection, only the smallest sizes were available and it reminded me of a combination between Jane Norman and Burberry (as far as limited colour and style). I didn't even make it to the back of the shop before turning around and leaving. As far as value for money goes, it is ...

Advantages: good quality clothing Disadvantages: there aren't many branches
I have actually heard of this shop but never really been in there until today while in Glasgow. I never knew that it was so great. I think the reason not many people have done reviews on this shop is because there aren't many branches. It's sort of a designer shop well it's posh and laid out beautifully and elegantly which is like a designer shop also everything was folded neatly. The prices are quite high from £20 and higher. There are some reduced ... ...nice shop it's just, they need to built more shops and I would definitely go, it's not very well known. They sell jewellery and shoes too. It's a good shop and if you have one near you go. The other good thing about it is there are only about 4 of the same top so you've got a chance of not having the same top as many people. ...

Advantages: clear, bright open shops, quality clothes Disadvantages: not very wide range
I love to shop in Mango whenever I visit friends in Glasgow or take a trip to London, here I will tell you why. On entering the store there is a calm feeling, the music is subtle and everything is spaced out. There is a real sense of organisation - a refreshing change from the chaos of most women's clothing shops. I have never once seen clothes strewn on the floor or items on the wrong coathanger. All the ranges are clearly laid out and you can quickly ... ...help me. The clothes in Mango tend to be of a particular style and I would class them as more day / casual wear than night time.In general I would go to Mango for comfortable, trendy items. The prices are reasonable, not the cheapest in the market but certainly affordable. I would strongly recommend a visit to mango, however they do not have many stores which is a shame. ...

Advantages: nice tredy cloths Disadvantages: not many stores
I like cloths at Mango, not many people know it and clothes are "different". Quality is not the best but very trendy and the prices are affortable.
They don't have many stores but they do have the online shopping which I love, there is a large selection, I think more than at any physical store actually, and prices are the same as in stores. At the moment there are more than 1500 different items (not counting the different colours). This includes ... ...costs and they accept returns for a month, you can take them to a physical store if you wish, or post them back.
You can sort items by category, price, or type (e.g. suit, evening, casual, sportswear...) so it is quite fun to look around.
They now have an on-line outlet where you can buy very cheap, up to 80% discount. It is last year's collection so not all the sizes are available and the offer is much smaller, but the prices are really worth ...

Advantages: Cheap; Lots of choice; Disadvantages: Can get carried away; No help with large items
...got my son a huge Lego tanker at £20 cheaper than in Toys R Us. We regularly buy replacement heads for our electric toothbrushes there. They are 4 for £10 in Costco - a saving of about £6 in comparison to Boots prices.
Costco warehouses are huge places. You have to have some stamina to get round the things. The staff seem to have realised this, though, and often have free tea/coffee and biscuits waiting at the door for shoppers.
The goods cover a wide range of categories. There is an excellent fresh section, where we regularly buy a tray of 5 GIANT mangoes for £5. Big bags of bananas also work out cheap. You have to watch, though, not everything is less than in other shops. There is a frozen food section and large aisles full of tinned goods. You have to buy whole boxes, though, not the odd can or two.
Goods are subject to VAT...

...I needed a bag. Erm, hello? That was why I was buying it – surely she couldn’t think I really wanted a Sunshine Blossom Silver Spray? Still, I claimed it would be impossible to cope without one, and she handed over a smallish paper bag with the lovely letters emblazoned on the side.
Fast forward 5 years or so and you come to today. Shopping in Preston for probably the first time since Boxing Day I saw the new (well new to me) branch of Gap and popped in. My first impressions were that it was a nice normal shop, similar to Mango or H&M in its layout. At the door was a security guard wearing a futuristic style headset. I thought this was just because she was security, but soon found most of the staff to be decked out in these. The shop was split into 3 sections – Menswear, Womenswear and Kids. Bypassing mens I peeped...

...What do you mean you can’t walk around with TK Maxx bags cause it’s not cool? The clothes certainly are cool and I will not let those ignorant people stop me. Do not however attempt to step inside if time is not on your side...
Fair enough I might not be super rich yet to be shopping at Karen Millen (non-sale) but I will not be stopped when trying to look good in a bargain deal!
Now for all of you that read my opinion on Jane Norman, Miss sixty and Mango will know that I am a fashion victim and to make matters worse a shop addicted spoiled little brat. Even when I don’t have the money I will try and sneak a bargain!
TK Maxx was introduced to me by my best friend Sameena, who is now in Guatemala on her year of travel. She said it’s good and it’s cheap BUT don’t ever get caught with TK Maxx...
