Advantages: Decent selection of products Disadvantages: Woe betide ye who try to return a defective one!
I've bought a lot of computer and radio - related bits from Maplin over the years, but never again.
Having had the misfortune to get a defective unit I returned it.
It seems that Maplin think that customers, regardless of a history of buying from them, are not to be trusted, and would not contemplate replacing a product without first sending it to their engineers to examine. Couldn't they just try it, please, thereby quickly proving it to be broken?
Apparently not. If I wanted a replacement urgently I would have to buy another one!
A Manager entered the conversation uninvited and was sadly both unhelpful and astonishingly, breathtakingly rude. Appalled by the repellent demeanour of this young lady, I left the shop.
Customer service is a foreign tongue here .... shop elsewhere! ...

A long while ago, my High St. used to have a Tandy shop. By a tortuous route, our local branch became a Jessops Photographic store, which in itself was no bad thing ? you get a bit tired of Dixons being the only place you can buy a camera!
Firstly, Carphone Warehouse, who had bought the Tandy name in the UK, decided to phase out certain branches in favour of Tecno, a photographic chain, and our local branch followed this sequence.
No sooner had I bought a brace of SLR cameras from Tecno, AND taken out the extended warranty, than I got a letter from Jessops, telling me that they had bought Tecno?s interests and assets for Carphone Warehouse, and in future, the Hounslow branch would be a Jessops.

I love my PSP, but I'm still playing games I bought 2 or 3 years ago for my original PSP-1000. For a new user, especially, the lack of new games is enough to make anyone worry about investing in one.
The 4.3-inchLCD wide screen remains, and it's been tweaked. Sony says the new screen now delivers better color reproduction, reduced glare, and reduced "ghosting" on high-motion scenes. When compared with the 2000, the PSP 3000 does, indeed, deliver better color vibrancy (you can toggle between "wide" and "standard" color in the options to see the difference). As for glare reduction: we didn't find there to be a huge difference. Don't expect to play in direct sunlight, for instance. But you might have better luck with fewer distractions from indoor light sources. ...
