Survey. They were originally compiled from aerial shots taken from hot air balloons and aircraft. These days however they are compiled with the aid of satellite images. Since this time there have been other sets of maps published by Ordnance Survey, including one for each of Britain's National Parks. Personally however I find that the Landranger series remains the simplest and the best. Each individual map is to a scale of 1:50000, which equates to 2 centimetres to every mile (1.25 inches per mile). Each map covers an area of 25 x 25 miles (40km x 40km) and they are always produced on a north to south/west to east grid to correspond with the points of a compass. Great Britain Maps - Problems REVIEW

Advantages: 1000's of POI's, detailed map
Disadvantages: Out of date, no updates, some roads not there, lack of customer support

I am going to be brutally honest - Tom Tom is the leading company when it comes to GPS car navigation. The fact that they are one of the best would suggest that customer support is also good - this is not the case. Any problems that a customer has are irrelevant to Tom Tom. My map is out of date (at times I will be on the motorway, and the map tells me I'm in a field an that I should turn down cowgate lane! Aside from the problems with the company, there has been no attempt to provide updates for the maps. The only option is to purchase a completely new map - even with this, you still don't know whether certain roads have been updated! Do not get me wrong, I am happy using the Tom Tom - and the Great Britain map which provides 1000's of Points of Interest (fuel stations, hotels etc.) and is comprehensive throughout the UK. Review of TomTom GO Great Britain Maps

TOMTOM UK MAPS Re-written . .

Advantages: Easy to keep with TOMTOM at all times.
Disadvantages: Easy to lose if not in safe stowage.

After using this product myself for nine months now, I feel I am qualified to write this report. These maps are very easy to load into the Tomtom, (they load in a few moments) easy to use, show just about everything you need to navigate with ease There are some very easy to see graphics, and the colours are just about right for all light conditions. The display is very clear, and unaffected by sunlight. It is easy to see in all conditions. The price does appear a little on the high side at the moment, however, I suspect it will drop as soon as it starts selling like "hot cakes" as I am sure it will do very soon. The only fault I can think of, is the ease of losing it, due to the size, however, I find that used film containers are perfect for things like this. The blank cards are cheap enough to buy ...
