Hi My name is chris i am very serious about my music and my music equipment also im a serious gamer and a film critic i have many other sides to me but non i see as value to the users of this website at the moment.

I have had this cd player for close to a year now and i can confidentally say it still works exactley the same from the day i purchased it, which compared to some of its rivals wheer the laser goes weak or the motors go slugish the marantz cd5400 truly has a high quality build to it.
If your a marantz fan then you should already have trust in what they can produce and to me the marantz cd5400 is the back bone to a nice high quality system.
It is not the best cdplayer around but for the money I can gurantee you will find it very hard to fin a cd player more impressive then the marantz cd5400.
When i first listened to my cd5400 i was that impressed by the acoustical detail it uncoverd i actully had to go down stairs and steal my moms mozart collection just to see how great it was.
The only draw backs to this cd player is as followed When playing a copied cd on there you soon realise the difference in quality and not just for that but from one normal cd to another you can see a difference im not sure wether thats the cd players fault or who ever makes the cds but it can get anoying.
The other draw back is that there is a lot of buittons on the actul cd player that still do day after nearly having the cd5400 for nearly a year i still dont have a clue what these buttons do.
I have always been a person that also goes by little things that reviews can miss out so i will add these little points to help you. when the cd player opens the cd slot for you to insert the cd that is not sluggish like on some of the rivals one its a nice speed and it is very smooth. Also i think the layout of the remote is really cool.
I have tried cds that are scratched badley in there as well to see how well it can handle them and in conclusion the cd5400 will try its hardest to play them and in most cases has but on some atempts it will get stuck on bits so you will have to maually skip to the next track but it doesent sieze up like i have seen with dvd players. So basicley when you press a button it will react straight away without any problems.

The most telling detail in the review is that the listener can now tell the difference between the quality of different recordings on the CDs. This tells me that the unit is fairly revealing of detail. In that respect it was helpful.
