After a lot of 'Googling' and checking of various reviews within the audiophile press I have opted for a used MarantzCD63 MkII KI Signature CD player to keep within my meagre buget of £200. What a difference from my previous model, an ancient, yet well regarded, Denon 1100 model: the sound of the Marantz is magical, most noticeable the width of the soundstage. Details are sharp and bass much more pronounced. I have noticed notes, sounds that I hadn't before. It is very musical in its output and together with my MF A1 amp I can understand that this may be, to some, over musical. Those who prefer a brighter sound would need a different combination, but my 57 year old ears enjoy it. Not being a CD nerd I can't comment on whats inside the unit, only on what comes out of my Mission e34 speakers, and that is now magic, pure magic! ...
Advantages: Uncover brilliant level of detail solid build Disadvantages: Some features seem useless
I have had this cd player for close to a year now and i can confidentally say it still works exactley the same from the day i purchased it, which compared to some of its rivals wheer the laser goes weak or the motors go slugish the marantzcd5400 truly has a high quality build to it.

Advantages: Solid economical car with great potential Disadvantages: abused ones can rust very badily.
parts a fraction to what Ford will charge.

I started to polish the car once or twice daily and after a few weeks it was shining lovely. The little fiesta was becoming quite eye catching. I started to make interior changes - blue interior light, white dial kit, ally gear knob. The original stereo was OK, but i spent about £500 uprating it. Nothin too fancy, CD head unit, uprated fronk speakers and decent subwoofer and amplifier to power it. Again the interior of a MK3 makes it very easy as it is all very univsersal.
Things were coming together slowly. About late 1997 i attended my first car show as a spectator - and realised i had lots of work to do. The next few ...
