After a lot of 'Googling' and checking of various reviews within the audiophile press I have opted for a used Marantz CD63 MkII KI Signature CD player to keep within my meagre buget of £200. What a difference from my previous model, an ancient, yet well regarded, Denon 1100 model: the sound of the Marantz is magical, most noticeable the width of the soundstage. Details are sharp and bass much more pronounced. I have noticed notes, sounds that I hadn't before. It is very musical in its output and together with my MF A1 amp I can understand that this may be, to some, over musical. Those who prefer a brighter sound would need a different combination, but my 57 year old ears enjoy it. Not being a CD nerd I can't comment on whats inside the unit, only on what comes out of my Mission e34 speakers, and that is now magic, pure magic!
Advantages: Brilliant and not too expensive Disadvantages: ???
I got my KI Signature 18 months ago and it's fantastic. I'm not a hifi expert so can't do the technical jargon, but the way it handles dance music is very impressive. Everything comes through clearly, with no muddling, no matter how many bpm and no matter the range from bass to treble. It has a very smooth sound that lends it a great clarity. I've got it hooked up to an Arcam Alpha 9 and AE109's. The only thing I could complain about this as a system ...

I Bought my Marantz signature player off Ebay about 4 months ago for the very reasonable price of 130 pounds.
After hooking it up to a Cyrus amp and Mission speakers i was absolutely blown away with the crispness and clarity. So much so that i had to dig out and blow the dust off some of my old cd`s just to hear the difference.
It brought so much out of these cd`s i.e Percussion instruments and vocals that i didnt even know were there ,thus i reckon ... ...to be listened too.
Saying all this if you do decide to purchase this Cd Player dont skimp on inferior leads, amp and speakers it will only let the player down.
Also if more bass is required simply have a floor standing speaker as apposed say to wall mounted speakers which i have. ...

...player a year ago, the Marantz was on my audition list due to the rave reviews it and most other Marantz models have had in the hi-fi press over the years.
I couldn't believe how painful it was to listen to. The top end was so over-emphasised, there was no control to this machine - it was like having panes of glass shattered in your ears constantly. Kidding myself it was only a matter of adjustment after having just listened to a rather dull Denon ... ...was just too dull. I bought a Sony CD XPB 920 (or something like that) which is excellent; the sort of machine that doesn't get in the way and let's you listen to the music for hours without fatigue. The Marantz wouldn't have made 5 minutes without being turned off. ...

Advantages: Amazingly clear sound (especially so in Class A), well built Disadvantages: Very heavy, maybe not visually to some peoples tastes, can get hot in Class A
As anyone with a hi-fi separates system knows, whatever equipment you have can never be good enough. As soon as one piece of kit is purchased, another starts to look outdated or outclassed. Having recently purchased a Marantz Signature amp to complement Mission Floorstanders, my Pioneer amps were beginning look and feel somewhat old. I had been so pleased with the MarantzCD player (a CD-63mkIIKI), and have previously owned Marantz amplifiers, that the decision to buy the PM7200 KI was fairly straightforward. It has been widely proclaimed one of the best dual class amps in the sub-£1000 price bracket, and as someone with not a lot of spare money, this was a welcome relief! Obviously a dual class amp for around £400 is quite a rarity, let along a Signature Marantz edition.
Reading up on the amp in various magazines and websites ...
