Marantz is well respected as a 'near audiophile' brand name - the emphasis is on quality rather than features, the DV-3100 is no exception.
I have a particular interest in baroque chamber music.

If I had one visual change to suggest - it would be to do away with the mock aluminium feet which show just under the front of the unit - very 1990's, and serving no function!
At around 470mm wide it matches my other hi-fi separates - of various brands, exactly.
Most DVD players will spend a lifetime sitting under the TV - this one is just as happy in the Hi Fi rack.
The trouble with most DVD players is that they are first and foremost intended as a player of DVD movies on the television.
When it comes to playing audio CDs, they simply don't compare with 'proper' audio CD players.
This one is different.

In terms of looks - the design theme is simple - black knobs, a single smoked 'window' which shows the basic functions, centrally mounted CD drawer all on a flat plastic face plate that is meant to look like spray painted aluminium.
The button names are very discrete, being small brown letters on the black background. Prominence is given to the Marantz trademark, and a host of logos depicting which video and audio standards the unit supports.

The unit is now beginning to show it's age in terms of formats supported.
It's strictly for audio CD and DVD. Frankly I can live without MP3 MPEG and Video-CD.
For a basic, no nonsense and straightforward player, this is exceptionally hard to beat.
