Marantz deliver on the sound

Advantages: Great looks, expansive open and detailed
Disadvantages: Lacks a little bite, not ideal for loud volumes

There are a number of high quality amplifiers at the moment within the budget range and Marantz certainly figures prominently in this group. As with all of these amplifiers, they each seem to provide their own characteristic or sonic signature. In the case of Marantz, I usually consider them to be very open throughout the mid range and delivering a crisp clean bass or "snap" to the music. Therefore it was of a great interest to me to finally hear this particular amplifier which has been so highly praised in many publications. When you see this amplifier, it looks expensive, it has a curvy attractive design which certainly belies it's price tag. It is clear that there has been a great emphasis on aesthetics to allow this to stand up in this very competitive market and it certainly gets top marks for that. Secondly a welcome addition ...

Marantz cd5400 experience uncovered

Advantages: Uncover brilliant level of detail solid build
Disadvantages: Some features seem useless

I have had this cd player for close to a year now and i can confidentally say it still works exactley the same from the day i purchased it, which compared to some of its rivals wheer the laser goes weak or the motors go slugish the marantz cd5400 truly has a high quality build to it. If your a marantz fan then you should already have trust in what they can produce and to me the marantz cd5400 is the back bone to a nice high quality system. It is not the best cd player around but for the money I can gurantee you will find it very hard to fin a cd player more impressive then the marantz cd5400. When i first listened to my cd5400 i was that impressed by the acoustical detail it uncoverd i actully had to go down stairs and steal my moms mozart collection just to see how great it was. The only draw backs to this cd player is ...

Review of Marantz CD5400

One marvellous Marantz!!!

Advantages: Sound
Disadvantages: None

After a lot of 'Googling' and checking of various reviews within the audiophile press I have opted for a used Marantz CD63 MkII KI Signature CD player to keep within my meagre buget of £200. What a difference from my previous model, an ancient, yet well regarded, Denon 1100 model: the sound of the Marantz is magical, most noticeable the width of the soundstage. Details are sharp and bass much more pronounced. I have noticed notes, sounds that I hadn't before. It is very musical in its output and together with my MF A1 amp I can understand that this may be, to some, over musical. Those who prefer a brighter sound would need a different combination, but my 57 year old ears enjoy it. Not being a CD nerd I can't comment on whats inside the unit, only on what comes out of my Mission e34 speakers, and that is now magic, pure magic! ...
