Gene, earned a sole point at the Nurburgring in the European Grand Prix, thus gaining one more point than he was expected to do.
Arguably his major asset to Minardi was the vast amount of sponsorship he attracted to the team, although the one point was a bonus.
He has experienced a chequered career in his forming years with a string of karting successes in his homeland. Made the natural step up to Formula Ford racing and then chanced ...
...to win any titles and actually did not gain a single win in Britain on the Formula Three circuit, although he was studying in England at the time.
The Spaniard is a popular driver on the Formula One scene and is something of a bookworm as he is an avid reader of business magazines. Bizarre fact – his favourite book is Wilt by Tom Sharp.

Had a fair chance?

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

I dont think Gene has yet to be given a fair chance in formula one, being thrown straight into the deep end beeing an understatement! Even micheal schumacher would struggle in the sort of car gene is in.Its problems are endless, with gearbox, engine, suspension and tyre failures big issues in the minardi camp.he has to be some good.racing at 200mph,there is no such thing as a poor driver.I think that given a chance in a faster, more powerful, more reliable ...

spanish pilot, but the worst car

Advantages: few

...us happiness in the future. Marc in spite of its phone minardi gets times of the last ones in the trainings, but in career it always advances many positions although then or its motor breaks, or other pilots toss him outside of the hint. Certainly he/she carries out more groupers than mazzacane, their team partner that at some time has also demonstrated their immense quality. This of it formulates it 1 it depends by 80 percent of the motor and of ...

One of the big spanish flops

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Slow

De la Rosa and Gene. What a waste of track they are. Gene is in an underpowered car that is nice to look at but very slow. You cant blame him as much as Mazzacane but he is still not cutting the mustard. Look at Button. Out qualifying his teammate and his team mate is Scumi's little brother!. Sometimes I wonder why these drivers even bother. Minardi are a little team who I have a special place for in my heart as they always give it a go no matter ...

Put the Gas On Gaston!

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

When Minardi confirmed Gaston Mazzacane as their number two for 2000 it came as the perfect Valentine's Day gift. The 24-year-old from La Plata will back up Marc Gene as the Italian team bid to improve their F1 record. He began his motor racing career in on the Kart circuit in Argentina, before graduating to South American Formula 3. Mazzacane took the Italian Formula 2000 title in 1994, before racing in International F3000. The Argentinian got his Formula One breakthrough last season when he was a test driver with Minardi. Mazzacane also competed in the SRWC Sports Racing World Cup for the GLV Racing Team, finished 10th overall. He posted a victory at Magny-Cours and a second place at Donington. It's still early days for him in F1 so I shall reserve judgement on him. He has a good record previous to formula one but ...

Review of Gaston Mazzacane

Long may they continue

Advantages: Great spirit, Best coffee in entire paddock
Disadvantages: Little money, poor engines

Ever since their inception in 1985, the tiny Minardi team has struggled to make their mark in Formula One. The brainchild of Italian enthusiast Giancarlo Minardi, his team have seldom made it into the points and have never achieved a podium finish. Their cars invariably fall into line at the back of the grid, and frequently end up two laps down, especially on power circuits like Hockenheim and Spa. In 2000, their luck continued to be miserable. Rookie Gaston Mazzacane failed to secure any points, a fate which also befell 'team leader' Marc Gene. Nevertheless, I would thoroughly recommend Minardi to any Grand Prix buffs. Those who scoff at them fail to remember that where over 30 teams have gone to the wall since they came into the game, they continue to survive, and that the 107% rule,(designed to eliminate the so-called mobile ...

Formula One's preferred underdogs (2003)

Advantages: Good team spirit, two good-drivers
Disadvantages: Under-powered, under-financed and a long way behind

at the back, but they rarely if ever actually pay drivers for their services - they will usually find drivers who are willing to pay for a seat or bring in lucrative sponsership deals. In recent years they have tended to have one up-and-coming star and one pay-as-you-go driver in the line-up. 2000 - Marc Gene (Now Williams test driver) was quick whilst Mazzacane brought in the money; 2001 - Alonso (Now a Renault driver) was stunningly competitive while Marques brought in sponsership and 2002 saw Mark Webber (Now with Jaguar) delivering the results while Alex Yoong delivered the pay-checks. This formula seems a good idea and this year they have a super-strong pair: They have the customary young-charger in Brit Justin Wilson, out to prove himself with the big boys, already linked with Jaguar next year, but they have also nabbed the services ...
