I actually visited the Marc Jacobs website in the hope of finding some blurb on his inspiration for the perfume or similar. Unfortunately, Blush isn't listed in the perfume list. I'm no Sherlock Holmes but the lack of a reference to Blush on the Marc Jacobs website, combined with the fact that is now being sold in a discount department store makes me think that perhaps it is no longer being produced. So whether it's an old favourite of yours, ... more
I've never quite understood why, but I seem to have an ongoing obsession with perfumes. Many people make do with one tried and tested fragrance which they continue to purchase and use year in, year out. For me though, my choice of perfume is very personal and I use it not only to smell pleasant but also to alter my mood with different fragrances to uplift me, help me feel seductive, calm me and so on. My love of fragrances therefore means I have an almost unhealthy knowledge of the well-known fragrances on the market. When a colleague innocently asked me if I could think of a good fragrance for her mother, I rattled off 30 or more options with descriptions of each aroma and the sort of person it would suit. If working on a perfume counter offered me the same salary and career prospects as my current job, I would jump at the chance. And I'd be easily recognizable too as I'd be the only one without the orange permaglow and patronizing smile.
But of course, that's beside the point. You all want to know about Marc Jacob's Blush and if it's any good or not. Firstly, you can always read up on the manufacturer's blurb to give you a bit of an idea of what to expect from this fragrance: Marc Jacobs Blush is inspired by the flesh tones of vintage lingerie, this sleek, soft, skin-pink bottle contains the fragile and profound scent of jasmine nectar blended with touches of fresh air, Italian bergamot, and plush floral notes, and smoothed with lush pink musk, Cashmere wood, and sandalwood. The description alone was certainly enough to arouse my interest and so I investigated the perfume in further detail. The perfume is sold in a mirrored silver box with the product name printed on it. Inside, the bottle is a subtle peach tone and is simply a large rectangular shape with a silver lid concealing the spray applicator. It is made from glass and is weighty and sturdy which makes the bottle feel like a luxury product. Whilst it lacks the innovativeness of many other perfume bottles on the market, it is still an attractive, elegant container and, personally, it is the product within that is of far more interest to me than the packaging.
Which brings me to the perfume itself. As I said before, fragrance is very important to me and choosing my perfume each day is as important as deciding what to wear. The first time I smelt Blush, I knew I had to have it in my collection. Blush is a very warm perfume which is sweet and light but has an added richness to the aroma over many other light floral perfumes available. The top note of jasmine nectar is very noticeable when first spraying the perfume and a delicate aroma of jasmine remains as the fragrance settles on my skin. The ongoing aroma is fruity but has a nostalgic and almost vintage scent to it which lasts all day long.
The perfume has an ageless and timeless quality about it although I would recommend it for more mature users. I'm not saying it's for older people, but if you prefer quite gentle, sweet smells then the seductive notes in Blush might be too heavy for you. That said, I generally abhor heavy, oriental fragrances and so Blush certainly doesn't fit into this category.
Blush is available as an eau de parfum in 3 sizes of bottle, 30ml, 50ml and 100ml. The 100ml bottle retails for £69 in department stores but I spotted a bottle in TK Maxx last night for a mere £30. I resisted the temptation since I should be spending my money on my friends and family at this time of the year rather than on myself but, having slept on it, I will be popping back to grab me a bottle. As Blush is an eau de parfum, you will only need a couple of spritz to leave a noticeable scent on your skin that will easily last all day long. This makes the 100ml bottle at £30 an absolute bargain in my eyes. There are also Blush body creams and lotions to compliment the perfume and there was a range of Blush makeup available at one time, although I haven't seen it stocked recently.

I'm no Sherlock Holmes but the lack of a reference to Blush on the Marc Jacobs website, combined with the fact that is now being sold in a discount department store makes me think that perhaps it is no longer being produced. So whether it's an old favourite of yours, or simply a new fragrance you think you'd like to try, then now is the time to stock up before it disappears into oblivion. Which incidentally, is where most of my favourite perfumes seem to end up so don't dilly dally!
