I spotted that the Astor range had an offer on which was buy and product and receive a free lipstick, so I bought my friend a blusher, liquid eyeliner and a lipstick, and got myself a lipstick too, which was pretty good considering that they cost £5.49 to buy!

It is incredibly rare that I will treat myself to a beauty product, not because I’m not bothered about that kind of thing, but because I always seem to be spending my money on friends birthdays, or it simply vanishes from my grasp. Incase you’re wondering, no I’m not just hopeless with finances, I’m a teenager, therefore finances are slim, in other words, parents are stingy with my allowance, lol. Anyway, back to the product, the reason I managed to nab this for myself was because I was buying a friends birthday present in Boots, and as a lover of make-up I decided that’s what I’d buy her. I spotted that the Astor range had an offer on which was buy and product and receive a free lipstick, so I bought my friend a blusher, liquid eyeliner and a lipstick, and got myself a lipstick too, which was pretty good considering that they cost £5.49 to buy!
There were around 6 or 7 shades to choose from, and I chose “Satin sand” a dark pink sort of colour, which suited my complexion (a tip: test lipstick on your fingertip, as this is the closest shade to your lips.).
The lipstick is very aesthetically pleasing; it comes in gorgeous silver packaging with a little plastic bubble sort of thing on the top with “Astor” inside it. It looks rather posh actually, but never judge a book by it's cover.
I have to say, I prefer lip gloss to lipstick, but I was willing to give this a go, as my mum has always recommended wearing lipstick to keep my lips soft and smooth and avoid chapping.
I’m very glad that I didn’t pay the full price for this product, as it was a bit of a disappointment. The application wasn’t brilliant, and I had to wipe some off and apply it again to get perfect coverage. After around 10 minutes my lips felt dry, and I had to apply Vaseline of the lipstick to get rid of the dryness. The colour seemed to fade quite quickly as well, although the Vaseline did help it to last longer. Another thing that was disappointing was that my lips felt dryer after using the lipstick than they did before, and this wasn’t helped by the fact that the lipstick dried in to the cracks in my lips, a little unsightly to say the least. I had to re-apply around every half an hour to avoid the inevitable drying out happening.
So overall, a big disappointment. The only redeeming quality was the fact that I didn’t pay for it, and I guess the packaging makes it look good in your handbag. Thankfully my friend said the other products were lovely and the liquid eye-liner lasted all day without cracking! It seems the quality differs within the range!
I’ll leave you with a somewhat strange ending to my op 1) The average woman will consume 6 pounds of lipstick in her life (tasty) 2) Most lipsticks contain fish scales. (again, tasty)
Advantages: pretty casing...er, mine was free! Disadvantages: crumbles, smells old-fashioned and doesn't last
...for a free-of-charge 'Soft Sensation' Margaret Astor lipstick enclosed with the magazine. After shelling out £2.70 for Marie Claire, I felt happy that I could somehow compensate myself with a lipstick that sells for £4.99 in Boots. Before claiming my lippy however, I had to telephone a special hotline to claim my Marie Claire 'Platinum Card', which has to be used in conjunction with the offers in the magazine. The Platinum Card arrived at my door ... ...My first impressions of the Margaret Astor range were that it looked quite expensive, but it appeared that it was of a higher quality than some of the cheaper make-up ranges, such as Rimmel. The selection was well-laid out and looked very professional. It didn't take long to locate the 'Soft Sensation' lipstick, as lipstick seemed to be their predominant product and most of the lipsticks there were part of this particular selection. There were plenty ...
