If you were asked to name ten essential kitchen store-cupboard ingredients, what would you include? Flour? Salt? Sugar? My guess is that most cooks would include some kind of instant stock on their list. Even the keenest of cooks is unlikely to have sufficient time to make their own stock for...

Consnone I can think of

I’m pretty much a “do it from scratch” kind of cook, using the freshest ingredients I can lay my hands on. At least, that’s my ideal. Like everyone else, I don’t always have the time or the energy. I’m not against convenience, just most convenience foods. One of the things I always made from...

Exceptionally good product, throw away your stock cubes!! Night and day flavour wise to anything I've ever added to my soup, I didn't even add any meat today to my soup and it's the tastiest it's ever been. Delia Smith says on her website if there was a prize for ingredients, this would win first place, and I have to fully agree. My hubby came in and asked if I was making minestrone (which I wasn't, just my regular broth) because he could smell the vegetables concentrated in this bouillon as soon as he came in the door. No more stock cubes for me, I am converted! It's not expensive, it's far superior, you use less, it lasts longer! A+++

Marigold Swill Vegetable Bouillon Powder. I always keep a supply of this great product in my cupboard; I add a couple of spoonsfull to the water when I am cooking rice, the results are a lovely, delicate flavour, especially when some people find rice rather bland; I also use it in vegetarian risotto. On the downside, the bouilon powder can be rather salty, so if you are using Marigold Swiss Vegetable Bouillon Powder in a recipe, leave out the "added salt".

ConsLarge tub is hard to find

The previous writer has covered the use of this bouillon in cooking, but I would like to say it tastes good on its own too. For those of us who like to drink bovril, tomato juice etc., this is another savoury drink that can be taken hot or chilled. You can add stuff to it, like a dash of cream...
