Mario Party titles, this is a fantastic party game with your favourite characters from the Mario universe, organised in the spirit of traditional board games but with the addition of several minigames to spice up the challenge. Characters roll dice, move on a board and can perform certain interactions on specific situations or via items they collect. At the end of each turn players are involved in humorous simple mini games, that require reflexes, intuition and/or logic. Mario party 8 on the Wii goes back to the classic formula of four players at most; however Mario Party 8 on the Wii takes full advantage of the Wii remote to inject unique and energetic gameplay in to the Mario Party.- Row to victory!- Score in a shooting gallery!- Twirl lassos!

As a long time fan of the Mario Party series, I was looking forward to playing the Wii's first attempt at continuing the games. After an extremely long wait with Nintendo continually pushing the release date back, it's finally available.
If you've never played a Mario Party game, the concept is quite simple. It is basically a board game, where the idea is to collect as many stars as possible. You can play with up to four friends as different Mario characters (including the likes of Yoshi, Blooper, Boo, etc) all running around the board collecting coins in order to buy stars or candy. After each person has had one move, a mini game is played.
The game idea is very simple, yes. If you prefer epic or complex games, then this game probably isn't for you! It doesn't really have much of a plot, it's just a simple, fun game that you can really just pick up and play whenever you feel like. It doesn't take much to get into it and it's not hard to learn how to play - but then, it's not supposed to.
This time around, there is a total of 14 characters for you to choose from. These include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Waluigi, Wario, Toad, Toadette, Boo, Yoshi, Dry Bones, Birdo, and unlockable characters Blooper and Hammer Bro. They've included all of the favourites and chances are you'll have heard of at least a few of those characters. If you've never played any Mario related games at all, that shouldn't put you off buying this game. Characters don't really have any advantages depending on which one you choose, and none of them have any special skills. It's basically a case of which you find the cutest, or whether you'd find it more appealing being a ghost or a dinosaur!
There is a lot of candy in this game. Candy's can be gained from walking through certain places, from stealing from other places, or just by buying at the candy shops. You can hold up to three candies at any time. Basically, each candy you eat gives you a different affect. Some of them will allow you to have three dice instead of the normal one, some of them let you steal coins or candy from other players, take part in duels with other players, swap places with other players - there is a lot of variety. What I personally like, is that many of them change the appearance of your character, though it is only temporary. My normal character is Yoshi, and it's amusing watching the dinosaur transform into a vampire, a giant ball, or any other thing by eating the candy. It's a little touch, but it's fun.
Finally, the board maps. The first is DK's Treetop Temple. This is the most similar to older Mario Party games, and I think it's my favourite for this reason. Basically it's set in the world of Donkey Kong, with lots of trees and barrels and lots of different paths you can choose to take. Stars appear in places randomly and you get a star simply by getting to it first and paying coins for it. Goomba's Booty Boardwalk is next. In this game there is just one path, with Captain Goomba at the end. To get a star you just have to get the end and he will give you one for free. In King Boo's Haunted Hideaway you are in a haunted house. You don't know where the stars are, as they are hidden in extra rooms that you cannot see. You can get a star by finding these rooms and paying for your star - but after you've got one, the layout changes and the stars are hidden again, so you can't just keep going to the same room! Shy Guy's Perplex Express is quite similar to the Boardwalk except it takes place on a train. Koopa's Tycoon Town is extremely different - it takes place in a town where you get stars for buying and upgrading hotels. Other people can steal your hotel from you by paying more money for it, so you have to keep topping it up. I like this game a lot. And finally, Bowser's Warped Orbit. In this game everybody STARS with stars, and the idea is to use candy to steal from your opponents. Personally, this game just seems to wind people up! It is generally considered a crime to steal stars from other human players, and you'll find they get very frustrated very fast in this game when the whole point is to take them!
You need coins to buy candy and to buy stars. It's quite easy to get coins. If you land on a blue space on the board, you'll get three added - if you land on a red, you'll lose three. Winning a mini game gives you ten, and you can always steal from other players with the aid of candy or duel games.
There are three main types of mini game. Four player mini games is where everyone competes against everyone. Three vs 1 mini games is where one person has to beat the other three - and are therefore given an advantage. And two vs two is where the players split into two teams to try and complete something the fastest. The games ARE fun, but I was expecting more I suppose. The main use of the wii remote seems to be using it in a shooting style point and click kind of way, and I was expecting extreme hilarity. A lot of Mario Party games have always been extremely whacky and involved your character doing stupid things while you just hammered the A Button. I guess I had hoped that the games would involve DOING those whacky things yourself this time around, but you don't really. There is one game in particular that stands out - in this you have to saw some wood, hammer a nail, and then paint a house. This is exactly the sort of thing I had hoped from the game. A few others require doing movements like shaking fast to clean something, etc. And don't get me wrong, the games ARE fun, especially if you are playing with other humans, but I had hoped that with the wii remote as versatile as it is, this game could get you doing all sorts of stupid things which it seems to have chosen not to. Still, it is Mario Party's first attempt at the Wii, and hopefully we will see some more unusual actions later on when people fully understand the capabilities of the wii. There are also a lot of driving games where you have to use the wii remote to steer exactly as you would a car. Personally I dislike the racing games, but then I do on any console. Still, it's significantly more fun to turn it in this way than it is just to steer with a standard remote.
The graphics of this game is simplistic and cartoony. But then, in a game where green dinosaurs are competing against small ghosts, skeleton turtles and squids, did you really expect it to look realistic? The graphics are bright and fun and I think it adds to the experience that they really haven't changed at all since the N64 days. The games are good and clear, and the addition of allowing your character to change into vampires etc is simple but really adds to the game. The graphics have improved to have some extra additions, but nothing major and I'm glad about that. The music fits into the games well.
Overall, this is a great game. If you've played any of the previous Mario Party games and enjoyed them then I'd recommend this to you, but bear in mind it doesn't take a huge step up and doesn't include the remote's sensitivity as much as it could. If you enjoy mini games, then definitley get this!
Advantages: Hilarious in Multiplayer, New ways to play Disadvantages: Can get tedious in single player, Wii remote could be used better
...to be an epic game. Mario Party 8 attempts at once again taking the boredom out of board games and giving a fun twist on the traditional roll the dice and move spaces style of games. It entertains and infuriates, but can only be regarded as fun for everyone. Whilst former games have been good, they have gotten slightly repetitive with similar styles of play using the controller. Of course, the Wii remote solves this, and has been put to use in many ... ...frankly is the most annoying Mario character I’ve ever seen. He also makes these stupid noises which make you want to shove that microphone he carries down his throat. Of course, he doesn’t affect the entire game, but I do really wish he’d crawl back into the cave from where he came from and never return.
The basic idea of the game is very similar to games such as Monopoly, in which you roll a dice to see how many spaces you move. Your counter (or ...

The game is relaxing, its one of those games where you can just sit back and relax on the couch. It is better enjoyed with friends or family.

Previous Mario Party games have had really brilliant mini-games to choose from, but many of those in this installment seem uninspired. I liked when you land on the donkey Kong place the mini-games are fun and are different. There are many games in this collection, ...

Mario Party 8 is a family-friendly, fun game. This game is quite simple, it is basically a board game, you roll a dice, you take your moves and the idea is to collect as many stars as possible. After each person has had one move on the board, a mini game is played.

can invite your friends round and have Wiiparties. In addition, when you buy a Wii you also get the excellent Wii sports at the same time. Wii Sports has tennis, golf, baseball, boxing and bowling - excellent fun and it also gives you exercise as well. However, Nintendo still needs to release better games for the Wii - there is still not enough 'big' titles that will appeal to everyone. Also games like MarioParty8 don't really live up to expectations and are quite poor.
The Wii remote control is so unique and actually involves you in the game. There is nothing better than being on your feet and jumping around like a madman. For me this is the big draw of the Wii - using the wand makes the console unique and brings games to life. Playing Resident Evil 4, Tiger Woods golf, Wii Play, Mario Strikers shows you what the Wii is all about. In ...

of the Wii, which brings me onto the Wii's main feature, the infared sensors. Nintendo provide you with a rather flimsy Sensor bar which gets stuck to the top or bottom of your TV, and picks up movement from your Wireless Wiimote, allowing you to use the Wiimote to swing swords, aim guns, hit tennis balls, compete in boxing matches and much more. Apart from the IR Sensor the Wiimote includes an A button, a B Trigger, a DPad, a - and + buttons, a home button, a power button, and 1 and 2 buttons, its shaped like a slim TV Remote, the only downside is that it eats batteries, and is held in right hand(if you're right handed). The nunchuk controller is then plugged into the Wii mote and is held in the left hand and has C and Z buttons and an analog stick.
