I am a big fan of Mark Radcliffe on radio 1. Currently this show is aired from 2pm –4pm on weekday afternoons, but from 19th Feb 01 it will air from 1pm – 3pm.

The show is hosted by two funny guys, Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley (the Boy Lard). Hence, Mark and Lard.

Previously to the current afternoon slot, they have hosted the Breakfast show (before Zoe Ball) and had the Graveyard shift for a number of years, which is the 10pm – midnight slot.

Anyway, the show is these two chap’s unique brand of comedy, games, catchphrases, and some good music thrown in to boot! Music is chosen from the Radio 1 playlists, and also some of their own choice of current and upcoming indie is played

The show has a lot of regular features. Two of these include;

Cheesily Cheerful Chart Challenge. Listeners phone in musical suggestions that relate to a current news story. Top 3 tunes are played at the end of the show.

Two Peas in a Pod. Two callers are pitched head-to-head in a quizzical battle for a whole fiver. The callers chosen have many “similarities” between each other.
For instance, today, “1P” had studied geography, and “2P” had looked at a map before. “1P” had got a potters wheel, and “2P” had got a number of pottery items in their home. They were like 2 peas in a pod.

For a very comprehensive and amusing back up to the show, visit the unofficial Mark Radcliffe web presence at www.markradcliffe.co.uk.

Here you can find out about all the features they do. The features rotate over the weeks, and new features are introduced.

A lot of them revolve around a similar theme, but they all possess the Mark and Lard brand of humour!

Listen out for Kylie Minogue’s voice on some of the jingles.

“Mark Radcliffe. On a good day… Average”

The catchphrases are hilarious. These include “Stop …….. Carry on” and “ Bigiddy Bigiddy BONG” You have to hear them to laugh!!!

These two are Sony Award Winners, and are the main reason to listen to R1 in the daytime, in my opinion.
Thankfully I am allowed to have the radio on in my place of work to catch this daily dose of chuckles!

    Whoooooooooo? Never heard of them. Only joking. Definitely tops. Them and Chris Moyles manage to pass many an afternoon, the occasional comedy changeovers are usually classic radio.
