The radio station I usually listen to is Classic Fm (being a bit of an auld git, and liking music by a lot of dead people) , however I have to tune in to Mark Radcliffe and his sidekick Lard (Marc Riley ex instrumentalist with Mark Smith's fall , who had to leave to to a clash of names).

Generally the music they play is decent up to the minute stuff, although the odd chart aberration does creep through. They're unpretentious , generally funny , and help the afternoon fly by. Me and a copule of mates at work always enter the Cheesily Cheerful Chart Challenge, but the highest I've got is number four.

They have lots of other features that come and go such as The Rabbi Lionel Blair and Fat Harry White which features one of the duo pontificating hilariously on some pointless event or another.

As well as this the also phone in competitions, real and made up which again score high on the funny meter.

As I said the music's good too. I've been a fan of Mark Radcliffe since I cought him on a show called Hit The North or Out on Blue Six.

They also have a band called the Shire Horses, who have one albume to their credit "The Worst Album in The World..Ever" which is extremely funny parodies of well known bands such as Kula Shaker (Peela Tater) etc.

Their anarchic show is a pleasure to listen to in the afternoon. Unfortunately it's usually followed by the talentless annoying Chris Moyles who tries the same format and fails miserably.

Give Mark and Lard a listen but switch off before Moyles.

Mark & Lard are hysterical! 'Tis true! Listening to them when they used to be at 10pm on R1 was a total radio highlight! Great op.! I recommend XFM if in and around London area, as the music is great! SUCH a shame the North doesn't get it...

To be honest I agree with you in a way. I am not very fond of Mark and Lard, and try not to listen. I prefer Chris Moyles. However, saying I agree with you, because I am not that great a Radio 1 fan either. I like music a lot, but often the DJ's just muck about too much for my liking. My favoutite DJ's on Radio 1 are Jo Whiley, mainly because I like her music taste, and she is not too intrusive, kind of easy listening. I also like Emma B for similar reasons, but I think they are under used. I much prefer to listen to my own CD collection. I like your write ups. Thanks for commenting on mine. Keep in touch.
