We only shop at Marks and Spencer very occasionally in our house, as a special treat or when we know we are having 'company', mum will go out and buy what she calls 'something special' from Marks to impress the relatives we don't see that often! Other times we go there is after Christmas, as mum sometimes gets Marks and Spencer gift vouchers as presents from people and she likes to spend them on nice food for us as very special treats.
About a week ago mum decided she would spend her vouchers and off we went into town and had a look to see what nice stuff we could find in the food section. We bought some odds and ends and we had a couple of quid left when I pointed out to mum some Melting Moments Chocolate Puddings (I'd seen these advertised on the telly, and thought they looked lovely). The advert shows a big shiny silver spoon breaking through the outer part of the chocolate sponge pudding and then the rich inside all oozing out, dark and chocolaty and yummy looking!
Mum looked like she wasn't too sure and suggested instead we needed a nice white sliced loaf, but I managed to persuade her that these would taste far nicer. A couple of minutes later I had her convinced and we put some in our little wire basket and trotted off to pay for our goodies. On the way back home on the bus, I looked though our carrier bags and read the box. Mum told me they could be frozen but I just smiled at her and said it wasn't necessary to freeze them, I'd be having one as soon as I got home.
As soon as we got in, I helped her put away the shopping and then hunted out my little chocolate pud. I asked mum if she wanted to try one and she said "why not", so I popped them one at a time in the microwave, as instructed on the pack, for 50 seconds. (You can actually put them in the oven for twenty minutes, but I didn't want to have to wait that long). Once the timer got to about thirty seconds, you could start to smell the rich aroma of chocolate all through the kitchen. It was simply lovely and smelled divine.
As soon as mine was ready, mum popped hers in too and we quickly ran into the living room together to settle down and eat our delicious little treats. Nan was asleep upstairs at the time, so we were able to eat in peace, without her moaning to us that we'd "get fat" and that they were a "waste of money".
I cracked into mine straight away and watched in amazement as the rich, thick Belgian chocolate sauce ran down the side of the dark sponge and settle into a little puddle on my plate. I then decided that a nice blob of vanilla ice cream would go well with it. Mum didn't want any ice-cream with hers though and just wanted to enjoy it on its own. The combination of the rich, hot dark chocolate and the light and fluffy sponge was really complimented by the lovely vanilla ice cream (even though it was only an Asda's own brand cheapy version).
Mum started to eat hers and made a slight 'ouch' noise as her chocolate sauce was too hot and she burned her tongue. Mine was quickly cooled by my ice cream. The sponge was also really lovely and moist, not sickly at all and not dry or crumbly - just perfect. Mum and me finished off our little dessert with relish and although it was a rich pudding I could definitely have eaten another one without any bother at all. Mum said one was just enough for her!
Afterwards, I cleaned what remained of the chocolate sauce from my plate with my little finger and decided that next time we go back to Marks and Spencer I'll be pushing mum to buy more of these. Reading the box afterwards, I noticed that each little pudding has 315 calories in each one - quite a lot, I suppose, if you are watching your weight, but not surprising really when you consider that they are made with lots of brown sugar, golden syrup and cream! They cost £1.99 but I think they are well worth it, especially as a treat. You couldn't really eat one every day (although I probably could), but I think they are nice to have every now and again. Far too good for dishing out to 'company' - I say, keep them to yourself!!
Advantages: Chocolate heaven, delicious, decadent, divine! Disadvantages: The calories :o(
We've all seen the adverts that M & S are running at the moment "This is not just food it is M & S food"… Well quite simply this is "not just chocolate… it is chocolate heaven!"
Yes… I succumbed to the advertising… and the melting middle chocolate puddings were on a BOGOF! So I decided to give them a go, what with my birthday coming up and all chocolate was a necessity!
Melting middle chocolate puddings…. Just the name rolling off the tongue gets ... ...you it is worth it!
Right… supper is, you guessed it a salad and then a pudding… well I have got to economise on the calories somewhere!
Mmmmmmm….. They are heavenly! Each pudding comes in it's own little cuplike container - even these are a pale charcoal colour with a sophisticated look to them - M & S really have made this look good… but does it taste as good as it looks that is the question???
Now how you cook these beauties depends on how ...
