Review of "Marks and Spencer"
Marks and Spencer definatly has an image problem which it's not letting go of...Marks and Spencer, as we all know have been losing more and more profits over the last two years. Every few months they seem to announce that they have lost more, surly these well-paid managers know what's going wrong?
I am just 18 and have predominately grown up with parents who shop at Marks and Spencer. I do have to admit that up until I was about 7, I did where their clothes, but not out of choice, I had no fashion sense. Soon enough Marks and Spencer became know to me as “Sad” and wildly un-fashionable.
Their clothes had obviously no sports names, which have always been fashionable. The name “Sad” has stuck, the Marks and Spencer name is laughed at upon children, any child seen in the shop, well, they will probably become the outcast of the class. Marks and Spencer managers need to take this point of view, child sales makes up a large amount of a shops profit and if the children won’t be seen dead in there, then they will try their hardest to stop their parents going in.
They have though tried to make Marks and Spencer a little more appealing. They have heavily advertised and many stores have been tarted up, but the Marks and Spencer name still has its image. They recently had to bite the bullet and allow people to use normal credit cards and not just the store card or cash for payment. This has helped, they may though now make less on interest on their customer’s accounts, but will most certainty get more sales. Many think that they are getting quality clothes, but he fact is that people are getting massively over-priced for goods that have been made by cheap labour in foreign countries. The quality of their stitching may be not as good as it looks.
The fact is that the clothing store Marks and Spencer has kept hold of its ‘Sad and old fashioned image’. If you just have a quick peak though the doors (Make sure your friends don’t see) you will see that the average age of the customers is about 75years old, these people tend to be more careful with their money, they won’t make profit like that. The only way that I think they can turn things around is to get rid of the name and the logos, a clean break; some of the products aren’t bad but the label just makes them un-wearable.
