Marks & Spencer Sushi…..
I decided in January that this year is the year to try new things and this advice spurred me on to buy my first ever trial of Sushi a few months back. I initially saw sushi ready to eat in the sandwich section of Tesco and the smaller boxes only cost £1 so I thought I didn’t have much to loose by trying it even if I didn’t like it. Anyway I needn’t have worried because I loved it and haven’t stopped ... ...Sushi pack was the latest one I have tried and to be honest I think it is the best out of the lot. Compared to Tesco Sushi, the M&S looks a lot more professional as it is made into circular pieces whereas the Tesco Sushi is squarer.
There were several sizes available in M&S but I only wanted a lunch time substitute for a sandwich so opted for the £3 packet. In this packet you get 8 different pieces of sushi and I feel the price is ... more
Marks & Spencer Sushi…..
Anyway I needn’t have worried because I loved it and haven’t stopped eating it since.
Marks & Spencer Sushi pack was the latest one I have tried and to be honest I think it is the best out of the lot. Compared to Tesco Sushi, the M&S looks a lot more professional as it is made into circular pieces whereas the Tesco Sushi is squarer.
There were several sizes available in M&S but I only wanted a lunch time substitute for a sandwich so opted for the £3 packet. In this packet you get 8 different pieces of sushi and I feel the price is good for what you are getting. The price in Tesco ranges from £1 to £5 but I think the price is about the same for a box this size.
The pieces of sushi inside are as follows: 1 Prawn Futomaki 2 Soya Edamame Maki 1 King Prawn Nigri 2 Red Pepper Maki 1 Lochmuir Smoked Salmon Nigri 1 Cucumber Maki with Soy Sauce Pickled ginger and Wasabi.
Now my favourite out of the packet has got to be the Nigri either the King Prawn or Salmon as I enjoy them both. They are basically just slaps of rice with the fish part laid over the top. They are easy to eat and have such a nice flavour as the salmon is smoked and you can really taste both this and the freshness.
All the sushi contains rice and the other roll type sushi has seaweed as the wrapping to hold the rice together. I have tried to make my own sushi but this was very unsuccessful as my rice was too hard and too fragranced with the liquids you need to add into them and I didn’t like my seaweed sheets, so it was complete disaster and I am only going to buy shop made sushi from now on.
So to get back to this M&S sushi, I do think that it is far superior to the Tesco version because it looks a better quality and it even tastes a better quality. You get more soy sauce (that comes in a little bottle) with the M&S one and both the pickled ginger and wasabi are not wrapped individually and this makes them easier to eat. I must admit to not using wasabi though as this is just like a Japanese horseradish sauce and far too hot for me.
The way this sushi is made is very good and the pieces are really just bite sized pieces that pop into the mouth easily and without too much mess. I have gotten people from work to try sushi and they are now just as hooked as I am. At first it tastes a little salty but the flavours of the vegetables and fish really come through. I must say that I have only tried the sushi with the raw fish once and I don’t think I will try it again as I really didn’t like it. Most sushi from Morrison’s, Tesco or M&S is the no raw fish variety and this is the way I like it.
All in all I do think this sushi packet from M&S is better than what I get at Tesco. It is harder for me to get to M&S to buy it as regularly as I like to and for that reason I will probably continue to buy is from Tesco. If I do go anywhere near M&S though I will certainly be buying it.
A 5 Star rating and a High Recommendation from me.
I hope this has been of some help/interest to you.
Advantages: The fish isn't raw. Disadvantages: Would benefit from more fish; not for those who don't love rice.
...and I also love the Marks and Spencer's Food Hall for the odd treat here and there. The Fish Roll, Nigiri and Makri Sushi Selection is one of my favourite occasional treats and I just love it!
First a little bit about sushi:
Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish which began centuries ago as a method of preserving fish. Cleaned, raw fish and rice were pressed between layers of salt and weighted with a stone. After several weeks, the stone was removed ... ...process. The Marks and Spencer's pack is presented in an oblong black plastic tray with a clear plastic lid to enable admiration of the contents. It is sealed simply with a plastic sticker and is easy to open. The sushi doesn't particularly smell of anything, it doesn't smell fishy, just fresh. The pack consists of:
**2 x's Tuna California Rolls**
California rolls are the most commonly known type of sushi. They have a tuna, mayonnaise, red pepper ...

Advantages: Is "moderately" fresh. Is nicely presented. Is Edible. Disadvantages: You won't feel the need to tell anyone how "good" it is. It's only medicore.
...Everything about this Sushi from Marks and Spencers was just OK. Which was a little anticlimatic since it looked very good, and it wasn't cheap and cost me over 30 pounds for three of them. I guess if you are unable to go to a Sushi Restuarant, or don't have the ingridients to make it yourself, this is the next best thing. I really don't think i'll be buying this in the future though. If you were told to bring some to a party, I'd suggest going to ... ...in them. If you buy 4 packs of these, they would equal one of of these packs for about the same price, but they do taste a little better. Sorry Marks & Spencer......maybe you need to hire a Japanese Sushi Chef to make this for you instead? =) ...

...vegetables and rice.
The Marks and Spencer version consists of rectangular squares of rice wrapped in seaweed and topped with either King prawns, tuna and pepper or several vegetarian options. They are all really tasty as well as being low on calories and high in protein which makes sushi the ideal choice for a filling, yet healthy choice for lunch.
Give it a go - you won't be disappointed! ...

stock large packs occasionally though did say they would order me in some if I liked. Plus Marks and Spencer is too far away to go for just a packet of sushi!).
The selection is Tesco is very good too. They offer smaller packets for £1 then the packs go up in size and price so there is a £2, £3, £4 and £5. The largest £5 pack is really if you were going to be having a party with a few people and is not something that you could eat on your own and it doesn't keep well so really has to be eaten within two days. Not only do they do different size and price variations, they also do a vegetarian option where no fish at all is contained. Other options include a fish one but not raw as in smoked salmon or tuna mayonnaise. There is a raw fish pack that I have tried on one occasion and I must say I feel more of a junior sushi eater as I much ...
