Having recently done a review on CADBURYS HEROES, I decided i'd do another review on another box of variety chocolates. But what to do?
Well today in Tescos, I found the perfect product. MARS CELEBRATIONS.
Now you are not telling me you have never heard of Celebrations before. Im sure they have appeared at least once in your house, either as a treat for when watching a film, a present from a visitor, or a box you bought yourself for a pig out.
After much deliberation between Celebrations and Cadburys Roses, I decided this time I'd get Celebrations, and the next time (i.e tomorrow, or the next day) I'd invest in the Roses.
What are Mars Celebrations
Mars celebrations are a box/tin of a variety of different chocolates. Each chocolate is individually wrapped in a foil wrapper, and this wrapper really accounts to them being super fresh when you decide to tuck into them. Celebrations are not just any box of chocolates however, oh boy no, each chocolate is a minature version of a largers Mars chocolate bar. This is, in a way a really good thing, however once you have one I find you end up craving the larger version and an obsession with that particular bar usually starts.
Packaging
Mars Celebrations come in either a box or a carton. I have a medium size 460g carton hear so I will base my packaging review on this particular type. The carton is tall, and predominantly red in colour. It didn't particurly stand out on the shelf, and some other varietys shouted at me more than this one, however over all it is pretty attractive. Like I said, the main colour of the carton is bright red. CELEBRATIONS is written in large block capitals on the top of the front of the carton. The word Celebrations is quite cleverly written, each letter being in the style of one of the mini chocolate bars hidden inside; for example; the R is that of the Mars Bar and the A from the galaxy caramel/galaxy bar. Underneath the word celebrations, there is a clear window, where you can clearly see the mini chocolates hiding inside the box. This is quite a good idea, and perhaps tempts its buyer buy dangling the chocs right infront of there face. Overall, the packaging appearence isn't overly outstanding, however I did chose to buy these so they must have had some kind of effect on the buyers.Cost & AvailabilityCelebrations are available from every supermarket as far as I am aware, including: Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Waitrose etc. They are usually available in corner shops and gift shops such as WHSmith and Woolworths. Celebrations come in a variety of sizes. Again, I have done my homework and come up with a few of the choices you can have:
70g carton- 94p
270g carton- £2.99
460g carton- £3.78
1KG Tin- £10
Obviously the prices will vary from place to place, supermarkets will most probably serve them at there cheapest.
What they include Celebrations are really a cause for a celebration as they include extremely yummy mini versions of the larger bars; Mars Bar, Bounty, Snickers, Galaxy, Galaxy caramel, Galaxy truffle, Malteasers and Milkyway.
Mars Bar Perhaps the king of all Mars products? The mars bar is plain noguat, caramel and chocolate. These are usually quite a popular choice, and my brothers often opt for these ones. On the rare occasion I have managed to nab one, i've found it truly delicious- the nogut and caramel mix together georgously and the chocolate adds an extra little sweetness to it; though it is quite creamy if you dont munch it but let it melt slowely on your tongue.
Bounty My least favourite in the box, and perhaps the least favourite in my family. The bountys are always left in the bottom of the tin in our house. A bounty is a coconut filling coated in milk chocolate. The chocolate is of the same high standard, but I find the coconut to be gritty and sticks in your teeth.
Snickers The snickers used to be my favourite type. But i ate so many of the large bars of these, I sort of went off them after a while. The snickers is similar to the mars bar, as it contains noguat, caramel and milk chocolate. The only difference however is that it contains peanuts. The noguat is also peanut butter flavoured which I think are georgous and then the roasted peanuts add a delicious crunchy texture. The caramel and the milk chocolate is again of the same delicious high standard.
Galaxy Perhaps in my top 5 favourites in the mars collection. Galaxy is my favourite milk chocolate, I prefer it too cadburys dairy milk and definitly prefer it to Nestle chocolate. The little chocolate in this collection is just a plain slab of milk chocolate, but like the larger version, it sits on your tongue and melts beautifully, leaving you with a scrumtious creamy sweet taste.
Galaxy caramel Definitly one of my favourites. The galaxy caramel is a galaxy milk chocolate shell, quite thick to be honest. Inside it hides a great secret- smooth runny caramel. They are absolutly georgous and melt deliciously in your mouth. These bite size ones are perfect for people who enjoy them but cannot manage a full bar of this. (I.e- not me!)
Galaxy truffle These are usually my first or second choice out of the whole collection. These are not a mini version of a bigger bar as you dont get Galaxy truffle bars, however it is the same delicious galaxy chocolate. The truffle is a slightly bigger, more oval shaped chocolate than the rest of them. A milk chocolate shell secretes a beautfil galaxy milk chocolate truffle centre. These are perfect to sit on your tongue and allow to melt. Perhaps my favourite.
Malteaser These are a weird one I have to say. You would think they would just wrap up a malteaser- but no, mars are too clever for this one. The malteaser is similar in shape to the truffle chocolate. The chocolate isnt as truffly however, more "sturdy" like that in the galaxy. Inside the milk chocolate, there are little malty honeycomb bits, similar to that inside of a malteaser. Quite like these ones too.
Milkyway The milkyway is a favourite with the younger generation, as well as the older. The milky way is similar in texture to the mars bar, however it doesnt contain caramel, and the noguat inside is white and "chocolate-malt''. Somedays I crave milkyways and others I think there a poor excuse for a chocolate bar. Wouldnt turn one down if offered though.
My top 5 celebrations would have to be:
Galaxy truffle
Galaxy caramel
Snickers
Galaxy
Malteaser
Up untill a short while ago there was another type of chocolate in the box; TOPIC. The topic used to be one of my favourites, it contained hazelnuts, noguat and caramel, and of course a coating of the delicious milk chocolate which is on all the chocolates in the box. I have to admit I was quite upset when the Topic was discontinued from the celebrations range, and even more upset now that I can barely find the larger versions in any shops.
Nutrition
You aren't honestly expecting these to be healthy and low in fat are you? Well if you are, then you are about to be proven wrong. 100g of these little beauties contain a huge 506calories, and 26.8g of fat. So definitly not good for those on a diet or watching there weight.. however perfect for a little treat and definitly alot healthier than a bar of the bigger version.

...boxed chocolates. Little itty-bitty Mars and Snickers sold like they were Roses or Quality Street. Genius. Pure genius. And more importantly it was like the selection boxes of old only more fun. I wasn’t the only one who was as impressed because the launch of Celebrations was the most successful launch the UK confectionary market has ever seen (according to the information that Masterfoods sent me). They were so successful that both Cadbury and Nestle ... ...see why. Magnificent.
Mars (5)
It never fails to amaze me how much like a big Mars bar this mini version looks. Eating these makes me feel like Gilbert Sullivan. In times gone by these would have been the few ones left in the box by the time all the others had been eaten. However I have re-discovered the Mars bar and was keen to try this mini version. Happily for me it tastes just like the big ones. You get the wonderful malty nougat with the butterscotch ...

...the planet, but the manufacturer. Mars have been providing us with goods since 1911, with such a selection of sweet treats available. One of these delicious choices is Celebrations. Celebrations is a pack of miniature versions of Mar's chocolate creations,.
I was at the local Tesco, deciding which chocolate treat I would delve into, when I spotted a mini pack of Celebrations, costing just 90p. I am one for variety, and thought this is much better ... ...went for the '''Mars Bar'''. Mars Bars are not something I eat often, but I do remember as a child having one now and then, my mam cutting it up into little bite size slices. One thing known about Mars Bars is that they are high in fat, so I am pleased that this is just a little one! Taking it out of its black and red cover, I was a bit disappointed that it did not have much of a smell. Nonetheless, I popped it into my mouth and ate away. It was ...

...decide whether they fancy a Mars bar or a Snickers - or indeed both with a Bounty thrown in - can now sample all of their favourite Mars chocolates in mini form and nestled together in one box or tin. Even if there are one or two chocolates in the collection that the consumer is not so keen on they will still eat them because they are there, the result of this will be at worst the person eating the chocolate still not liking the particular chocolate ... ...less keen on and hence Mars has a new fan of a particular bar of chocolate. Enough of my cod retail theories though, there really is something for everyone in a box or tin of Mars Celebrations, and I have reviewed each chocolate individually to give a more balanced review.

Mars - well everyone knows what a mars bar is so lets just say that this is a mini sized mars bar and is scrumptious! These get a rating of 7/10 from me because they are nice but nothing amazing, just a plain mars bar!
Snickers - this is quite a nutty chocolate and is just a mini version of the chocolate bars you can by in shops. It is a nice chocolate but not one of my favourites as I am not too keen on peanuts! The box you are most likely to see on shop shelves is the 280g box which is usually priced at anything up to £3. The boxes are fully recyclable and show the nutritional information which is quite depressing really when you realise that the chocolates aren't exactly low in calories or fat!

Advantages: Great from the fridge...nothing beats them! Disadvantages: Too much of a good thing is bad for you...aim for the mini bars!
As a child I remember clearly the advertising for the Mars Bar...allegedly, it helped you to 'work, rest and play', if you had a bar a day!
Would they be able to have such claims now with the current obesity issues in the UK...I doubt it!
That sai, the Mars bar remains one of the most popular chocolate bars in the uk. It cames in many different sizes (king size to celebration size) and there is also a mars bar ice cream variety.
Although the chocolate is not Cadbury's I do think this is a really nice bar of chocolate. I tend to buy the smaller sized bars though as the can become just too much, such being the mix of choclate, sugar, glucose, caramel...this is not a chocolate bar for the feint of heart!
I would recommend that the bar is put into the fridge for a good few hours before eating it...otherwise it just gets sticky and it ...

Advantages: Classic chocolate bar Disadvantages: They changed the nougat filling
the 'thick, chewy, stretchy' type of caramel as opposed to the velvety soft in a Cadbury DM or Galaxy Caramel. It requires a bit of chewing but when eaten with the chocolate top, the chocolate melts to help soften it - then it dissolves nicely in your mouth, requiring none of it to be picked out from your teeth.
3. The Nougat- This is a pale brown colour though darker than the snickers and milky way nougat centres. It used to be denser but is now slightly fluffy and light like the Milky way. It has a distict malty taste, similar to a Horlicks drink so it may not be to everyone's taste. However, the softness of the texture accompanies the chewy caramel perfectly. It dissolves in your mouth, leaving a sweet kick from the caramel and the subtle malty chocolate.
There are many variations in the MARS range:

The mars bar is a chocolate bar that has been around for ages! When I looked into it to see how long it had been around wikipedia states that the mars bar was first made in the UK in 1932 in Slough!
The mars bar is made up of Malt nougat, topped with caramel and coated in milk chocolate. Aswell as the standard mars bar they also do mars drinks and easter eggs. Little mars bars also come in the celebrations tins of chocolates. They vary in price depending what size you get and where you get it from, but I think mars bars no matter what size are good value for money.
Mars bars last for a while, its the sort of thing you can have in your fridge or cupbard and it doesnt go off quickly - to be honest mine doesnt stay in the fridge very long!!

Various sizes are made: miniature bars called "FUN SIZE" (19.7 gram ...
