Now here is a good idea form those masters of food at Masterfoods. People who dither and procrastinate at the chocolate shelf and cannot decide whether they fancy a Mars bar or a Snickers - or indeed both with a Bounty thrown in - can now sample all of their favourite Mars chocolates in mini form and nestled together in one box or tin. Even if there are one or two chocolates in the collection that the consumer is not so keen on they will still eat them because they are there, the result of this will be at worst the person eating the chocolate still not liking the particular chocolate but at best they get a taste for the chocolate that they were less keen on and hence Mars has a new fan of a particular bar of chocolate. Enough of my cod retail theories though, there really is something for everyone in a box or tin of Mars Celebrations, and I have reviewed each chocolate
individually to give a more balanced review.
●Galaxy truffle● This little treat is egg shaped and about the size of an egg yolk. A Soft milk chocolate shell gives way to a softer ganache type mix of chocolate and cream which melts in the mouth to produce a gloriously rich flavour of rich chocolate with a deeper creamier aftertaste. (48 calories per chocolate)
●Snickers● The good old Snickers, or as I call it - Marathon. The trademark chocolate flavour gives way to a subtle peanut taste as the sweet is chewed; the soft nougat holds the ingredients together as well as delivering a delightful sweet taste to compliment the peanut and chocolate perfectly, this is one of my favourites in the Celebration collection. (41 calories per chocolate)
●Bounty● Another of my favourite chocolates – The bounty is small and ovoid in shape. The chocolate holds the inner moist coconut in as well as providing a lovely taste as the two constituents combine. The coconut flavour is very subtle so even those who are not keen on the hairy fruit can still enjoy this sweet with little to worry about. (39 calories per chocolate)
●Galaxy Caramel● More of that delicious Galaxy chocolate now and this time it is proving the casing for a soft and runny caramel filling. On eating this particular sweet the chocolate melts readily to release the runny caramel filling to glorious effect. The Caramel sauce is not overly sweet which can sometimes be a problem with similar brands, all in all a very pleasant eating experience. (40 calories per chocolate)
●Topic● Topic always seems to me to be an overlooked chocolate bar which is a shame as it is very tasty. The make up of the Topic is similar to Snickers save for the fact that the nuts are hazelnuts and there seems to be less caramel and more soft nougat. Chewing a mini Topic is a truly sublime experience with the nut, nougat and caramel working together well to produce a thoroughly eatable treat. (40 calories per chocolate)
●Mars● Everyone must have tried a Mars bar at one time in their lives in one form or another. This amalgamation of chocolate, soft nougat and caramel is truly a treat to behold; this really is the Daddy of the chocolate world. (38 calories per chocolate)
●Galaxy● This time the delicious Galaxy chocolate does not have to share the lime light with any other ingredients and gets a wrapper to itself. Galaxy chocolate is delightfully soft to the bite with a smooth flavour that seems far more balanced than the likes of Cadburys. Once swallowed a subtle aftertaste is left on the palette which reminds me of sugar and cream, there are few better flavours than this. (43 calories per chocolate)
●Malteasers● This is the odd ball of the pack, an egg shaped chocolate with tiny lumps of honeycomb scattered throughout. Surely a better idea would have been to simply wrap up a single Malteiser! Despite my misgivings this is still a very eatable chocolate with the small pieces of honeycomb providing a lovely juxtaposition to the soft chocolate. (42 calories per chocolate)
●Milky Way● Last out of the box comes a mini incarnation of the Milky Way. Another oft overlooked chocolate in my opinion but an enjoyable treat that can allegedly be eaten between meals without ruining your appetite. Lightly whipped nougat is encased in milk chocolate to provide a soft and light chocolate treat that can more than hold its own amongst its choccy peers. (29 calories per chocolate)
So there we have the individual chocolates but they need to be held together in some way or other. A 1.5KG tin is available at around £9 but the box I had was 465g and cost me £3.29. Predominantly red the box tapers to the bottom and has a clear viewing window for inspection prior to purchase. “Celebrations” is written in the various fonts from the original chocolates so that the “S” from Mars sits next to the “N” from Snickers to produce an effective look. The back of the box is given over to Ingredients, nutritional information and allergy advice with the note that nut allergy sufferers and those who are intolerant to milk and gluten should steer clear, Celebrations are also unsuitable for vegetarians. Finally an address is provided should the product fail to satisfy.
So all in all this is a nice way to eat chocolates, all of my favourites are here as well as some I eat less often, and all of them were very tasty indeed. Four stars out of five.

Argh - 42 calories in ONE Malteser celebrations? A bit too much. Like these, though. Desiree x

This methodical laying out of all these desirable chocolates has filled me with an unreasoning yearning for a Mars Bar and there isn't one in the house. Lives may be lost.
