Advantages: Nice packaging Disadvantages: The nothingness of it all

Anyone, who knows me or has perhaps read a few of my reviews, will hopefully know by now that I tend to speak my mind. Perhaps I would earn more if I sung the praises of every product I have ever tried. Unfortunately I can’t and this is yet another occasions when I cannot withhold my disappointment. Galaxy is my favourite chocolate, only Cadbury’s Dairymilk comes close to its fantastic taste and texture. But this time Cadbury’s wins over their rivals’ mars, the makers of this chocolate drink and I’ll tell you why!
I was actually looking for Cadbury’s velvet drinking chocolate in my local Tescos when I stumbled across Galaxy Instant. As I mentioned earlier, Galaxy being my favourite chocolate, I actually overlooked all the recommendations from my fellow Ciaoers to go for Velvet and purchased this product instead. The 400 gram pot cost approximately £1.50 and came in a large plastic jar with the Galaxy trademark brown swirls on the cover. All very appetising, yes indeedee!
Unfortunately things went downhill from there. The instructions suggest putting 4 heaped teaspoons of powder in a mug with water and microwaving the concoction for approximately 1-2 minutes. Alternatively, you can just put 4 heaped teaspoons into a mug and add hot water. Preferring the latter method, I poured the water on and waited for the results.
The first thing I noticed was the smell or rather the lack of it. Consuming any food product is always a two stage process for me really. Stage one, the look and the smell. Stage two, the consumption. Well this drink smelt of nothing. Yes that’s right NOTHING! Nothing to stir the tastes buds, nothing to add to the moment and make it special. All right “nothing” cannot be a smell, so you’ll just have to compare it to the smell of plain hot water. Next the look, well thast was most alarming, I had created an anaemic drink, it was pasty, pale and downright ill. So, nothing to smell, nasty to look at, are you with me so far? Good!
Right, obviously this was not going to be a visual, aromatic experience but all was not lost. The most important aspect is always the taste. Could this drink redeem itself? Erm… well no not really. Smells of nothing, looks seriously ill and tastes blander than a bland thing on a bland day in a bland cup!
The scariest thing of all for me was that this cup of nothingness does actually contain something, yes each 220-millilitre serving actually contains 115 calories.
So there you go, one cup of tasteless calories, anyone fancy trying some? No I thought not! I did try this product with milk instead of water, as I often prefer hot chocolate drinks with milk, as it tends to make them creamier to the taste. What effect did this have? Well it smelt even worse and still tasted of nothing, it just went gloopier and more sickly!
So all in all, if you like chocolate, yes stuff your face full of Galaxy bars but if you are looking for a satisfying hot chocolate drink avoid this stuff like the plague and opt for Cadbury’s drinking chocolate or Cadbury’s velvet (I did get hold of some velvet in the end!)as both are far superior!
Two star rating as the packaging is quite nice (perhaps I should have tried consuming that instead?)

Review of Mars Galaxy Instant Smooth Dark Hot Chocolate Drink
Advantages: Contains real galaxy chocolate Disadvantages: Unfortunately not like drinking Galaxy chocolate in a mug
...chocolate is made by the Mars Company, and along with this particular flavour, Maltesers Instant and Flyte hot chocolate drinks are also available. My sample came with a voucher for 30p off a 325g jar of Galaxy Instant, presumably available in all good supermarkets near you. The accompanying picture also shows sachets of all three varieties, so these would be your best bet to try the drinks.
In strangely small writing on the sachet are the words ... ...Galaxy is one of my favourites, so I was looking forward to tasting this.
Before I get on to the actually experience, you might like to know that a ‘serving’ (made with 220ml of water) contains 115kcal and 3.4g of fat: not one for the dieters, then! But one mug wasn’t going to hurt me…
*THE ‘EXPERIENCE’*

Advantages: Not too bad Disadvantages: Floaty bits, very sweet
To be honest, I’m not sure why I bought this. I’ve never liked Hot Chocolate in any shape or form, ever since I was young. Today though, I decided that I wanted some! So wandering down the aisles at dinnertime in Safeway, I picked up a duo packet of Galaxy Instant Hot Chocolate drink. The powder comes in a packet that looks identical to the wrapper from a Galaxy chocolate bar. It is the same concoction of browns. There is a picture of ... ...tempt you. The real that that drew me to this type of hot chocolate specifically was the fact it said it was made from real Galaxy chocolate – and I just love Galaxy with a passion! On the back of the packet there is the nutritional values and ingredients listed. The drink contains:
2.0g of Protein
19.2g of Carbohydrates
3.4g of Fat
These are the values for a cup full of the drink, made with 220ml of water.
The powder itself is a light ...

Advantages: Tastes delicious, a chocolate fix without the chocolate calories Disadvantages: Where can I buy a bigger mug???
Those of you in Brum this weekend will know it's cold. Very cold. So what does a girl do when she's so cold her nipples are poking holes in even the thickest jumper? Come on now, it's not one of those sorts of op! The answer is she reaches for the hot chocolate. I had a couple of freebie sachets of Galaxy hot chocolate in the post this morning and decided to test one out tonight for two reasons - to warm me up and so I can write this op. I love hot ... ...slightly under a tonne in weight of sugar, Options low fat hot chocolate for when I'm dieting, McDonalds hot chocolate... So let' see how this small brown sachet is going to measure up.
Making the drink up is simplicity itself. Simply boil the kettle, add a mugs worth of boiling water to the hot chocolate powder and mix thoroughly. It's instant you see. No waiting for the milk to boil (and having to put up with the yukky smell) or having to sieve ...

Many of you who have read some of my opinions will know that I have mentioned several times that I don’t like hot chocolate. I have a theory that no hot chocolate drinks taste of actual chocolate and they taste so artificial it isn’t even funny. So what happened to me last night surprised me to say the least.
Stephen and me were walking through Tesco when suddenly I had a craving for hot chocolate. I am going to be going back to work ... ...get me off to sleep and to wake me up I’d need something soothing. But what made me think of hot chocolate when I clearly dislike it so much? I’ve even tried Cadbury’s drinking chocolate…the maker of my favourite chocolate bars, but to me it tasted nothing like chocolate. Then last night I saw this…Mars galaxy instant hot chocolate drink. It just jumped out at me shouting “Choose me, you know you want me”. ...
