...should avoid at all costs, Mars 'Dark & Gold' Ice Cream Bars.
I love Mars bars and even Mars Ice Cream although the latter does tend to get a bit sickly towards the end. It was for this reason I decided to pick up a box of these 'Dark' bars, that and the fact they were on special of course.
I am also a lover of dark chocolate, much more than any milk or white chocolate, so you would think that these two things combined ... ...do they taste revolting but Mars Chocolate also has a habit of jumping on your clothes. There you are happily (or not) munching away when you look down and are met with a blob of melting chocolate on your nice white shorts.
Maybe it's me, but I haven't been able to eat one yet without this happening, and tonight is no different. Mars chocolate seems to have a 'speed melting' ingredient all of its own.
Seeing as my last Ice Cream opinion was so well received and actually got a few of you to make a purchase I thought I would do another one. This time though it's about one you should avoid at all costs, Mars 'Dark & Gold' Ice Cream Bars.
I love Mars bars and even Mars Ice Cream although the latter does tend to get a bit sickly towards the end. It was for this reason I decided to pick up a box of these 'Dark' bars, that and the fact they were on special of course.
I am also a lover of dark chocolate, much more than any milk or white chocolate, so you would think that these two things combined would be utter heaven for me right?
Well, WRONG, I have just eaten the most disgusting thing in living history, in fact so disgsting I have had to throw the rest away.
The box describes this Cack as 'A touch of luxurious dark chocolate, smooth caramel and dairy golden ice cream' The box is lying. What it should say is 'So much dark chocolate that you actually can't taste anything else, which is probably a good thing anyway'. Then the box would be truthful.
What you have here is just dark choccie, yep thats it, it might taste a little cold because it's been in the freezer bit I'll be damned if you can taste anything else.
After searching for twenty minutes through umpteen languages (predominately Japanese) I managed to find the huge list of ingredients, not that you care, but here they are:
Well, I can just feel my arteries hardening sitting here, glad I threw half away.
It also states the usual 'Traces of peanuts' blurb, why has everything got nut traces in??
You get four of these mutant things in a box, four individually wrapped sickly sweet, choc ices, in fact they aren't even as nice as choc ices, big thumbs down from the Chicken on these.
Not only do they taste revolting but Mars Chocolate also has a habit of jumping on your clothes.
So, don't be conned by the BOGOF, Mars Dark are not worth it, buy some nice Soleros instead.
Advantages: Delicious , gorgeous , tasty , chocolatey , cheap and naughty Disadvantages: Fattening and probably bad for the cholestrol but one shouldn't kill you
...look away now ...................
Mars Ice Cream bars are on offer at Asda at the moment with a box of 6 retailing at only £1.00 . Yep that's right ONE measly pound .

...any old ice-cream...make sure it's Mars Ice-cream. For those of you who are my groupies, my fans, my fanatical supporters (I should be so lucky), you'll know my family is currently on a diet and they are trying to pull me down with them. Stubborn as ever, I will not have this! Whenever possible, I sneak out and stuff my face full of delicious chocolatey goodies. As it's really hot at the moment, what's more perfect than a chocolate ice-cream? With ... ...came to rest on the Mars ones. In a beautiful, chocolate-coloured box, I just couldn't resist!
PACKAGING:
Well, the packaging’s different depending on the amount of mars ice-creams you buy in the pack. My box held 12 ice-creams, and claimed to be ‘Big Value – 12 for £3.99’. The box is predominantly black, with the ‘Mars’ logo in Red. There is also a picture of a half-eaten mars on the front - no doubt to tempt ...

Advantages: Absolutely divine treat, not too expensive. Disadvantages: Fat, fat and calories.
...be wrong, but I’m positive mars ice creams were the original iced chocolate bars beyond the bog standard choc-ice. Over the last decade tens if not hundreds of other chocolate bars have had themselves given an ice-cream version; snickers, twix, bounty, kit-kat, mint aero, smarties, M&Ms among others! Mars ice creams are still among my favourite treats, long after the other bars have lost their novelty value… I shall explain why!
Indeed ... ...at the wonders of the mars ice-cream, only to find it highjacked by Dave27 for trashing this hallowed piece of frozen food… although all credit to him is opinion is excellent :P Each to there own; bring on the contest! LOL. |The Lowdown|
The mars bar is one of the longest running and most successful chocolate bars of our time. It consists of exceedingly rich nougat topped a thick but soft caramel layer and a milk chocolate outer coating, ...

...you ever been keen on Mars bars? Put them all together, and this is what you get.
Mars ice cream bars are described on the wrapper as ‘a touch of luxurious dark chocolate, smooth caramel and dairy golden ice cream’. Well, the manufacturers are bound to be a tad biased – they’d hardly say ‘rough caramel’, would they? There’s a full list of ingredients as well – including ‘unsweetened, condensed ... ...Just picture it – a Mars ice cream bar served with a bed of raspberries, strawberries or blackberries. Add a little dollop of fresh cream on the top, if you like. Be really wicked and add just a drop of Tia Maria, Scotch, or whatever else takes your fancy. (Steady on, I said jusht a drop). Have I got your taste buds salivating wickedly? If not, read it again. Picture it, and although I haven’t gone so far as to experiment with the boozy ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Just doesn't seem right
...bag as those bite size Mars bars. Wish those bleeding pony tailed gits would just bog off and stop messing about with our heritage.
You see, ice cream is cool and refreshing and somehow very clean and pure. Chocolate bars, like Mars, on the other hand, are like chewy toffee, very sticky and stodgyand linger on the palate long after they have actually disappeared - the clash of concepts really does sit very unharmoniously with me, rather like lager ... ...I don't much care for Mars ice cream and its rather odd combination of pure, cool ice cream with the familiar (and very tasty) experience of a standard Mars. Either one on its own is very, very pleasant, but bring the two together and it just has unpleasant psychological impacts on me, rather like chewing gum, or Turkish Delight, or even sprouts. The mind's eye refuses to allow the sensation to be in the least bit pleasurable.
(Turkish Delight ... ...

Advantages: Wonderful, decadent and delightful Disadvantages: Sinfully fattening but who really cares when they taste that good?
~~~ Midnight, n. The middle of the night, 12 o'clock; intense darkness ~~~
Do you remember those sinfully delicious limited edition Mars Midnight Mars Bars that made a fleetingly short visit to the shops a couple of years ago? Well in case you don't, they were a Mars Bar variant made with plain chocolate, and believe you me, they were wonderful. The bad news is that Mars haven't decided to relaunch them?.but the good news is that there is now an icecream version in the shops. I'm hoping it's here to stay, as it's the most sublime icecream bar I've tasted in ages.
~ THE APPEARANCE ~
Basically Mars Midnight icecream bars are a hand held icecream bar encased in a plain chocolate coating. They're not huge, just the same size as your average standard Mars Bars. The wrapper is simple enough with the Mars logo emblazoned over ...
Advantages: so creamy! Disadvantages: you just want more!
Fancy a mid night feast?
This product is perfect its cold so it wakes you up!
its nicer than the average mars bar!
mm so creamy!
These can only be bought in bulk of around 4 for £2!
This is one of the best icecreams around most icecream vans nowadays sell these, and for obvious reasons!
The chocolate icecream has a layer of caramel on top with a coating of dark chocolate around the edge. Although these ones are dark chocolate, you can buy milk chocolate ones, so everyones happy.
I would best serve these after 2 mins out of the freezer just to let them melt very slightly so you get a mixture of warmth and cold in your mouth!
As soon as you open the packet the smell just draws you in with a lovely rich chocolate smell, these icecreams come well packaged in a cardboard box then individually wrapped within the box.
All ...
Advantages: Its lovely, its a whole advantage Disadvantages: Little more expensive than others
I read a review yesterday and then saw the new Mars Midnight in a shop on my way home from work. I had to buy one even though it's a little more expensive than other icecream bars - well worth it.
I was a little put off by the dark chocolate as I'm not a fan, thought I'd give it a try and so glad I did.
Mars Midnight is delightful. It is more "refreshing" if thats the right word than the original Mars Icecream but has all the qualities and nice bits too.
The Mars Midnight is truly scrummie and definitely has to be top of my list of summer icecream. The Dark chocolate shell helps as unlike other the milk chocolate of a MarsIceCream it doesnt melt on those hot days - and it was hot yesterday! The icecream centre is wonderful and creamy and complements the dark chocolate and overall seems to be less sickly then the Milk ...
