I vaguely recall ( though I could be mistaken ) the TV adverts about these things a few years back now which featured some nutter squirrels ( probably escapees from the house of Mortimus ) which made me laugh but it wasn’t until now that I had the pleasure of trying these things !!
I call them things because I am not sure how you classify such objects so henceforth I shall just refer to them as “things !! “
By the way, I never bought these either. No, non-Platypi Steve didn’t buy them, Dan did and he bought a box of them so there were more than enough to go round which is kinda cool.
The box contained 8 Tracker thingies and each Tracker thing weighs in a paltry 26g which, lets face it is kinda pants really. Lets face facts folks, 26g just isn’t going to cut it with many fully grown adults, I guess that’s why they come in boxes of eight.

It’s a small box, about the same size as a box of Oreo’s or a 4 pack of Mars Ice Cream bars. The main two colours on the box are a dark chocolatey brown and a golden caramel colour. Which twirls in on itself onto the front of the box under the word “ Tracker “ which is written in white font with a gold and brown outline surrounding each letter.
Inside the box there are the eight tracker thingies which all have their own wrappers made of foil with a plastic coating on the outside, the design of which mirrors the design on the box.
Inside these !! Yup you guessed it … is the Tracker thing !! And it is to say the least one of the oddest looking snack thingies around. In fact it somewhat reminds me of a bird feeder thing you hang up which is a solid block of nuts and seeds and other stuff !! Birds however don’t get Chocolate Chip in their feeder things !!
The whole thing is made up of oats, rice crispy type things, peanuts and chocolate chips so essentially what we are talking about is a flapjack with other bits in and on it. These things are somehow stuck together with some form of syrup, but the nuts and chocolate chips are on the top.
The taste is somewhere between a flapjack and a muesli bar with a bit of rice crispy cake thrown into the mix. It is very chewy after the initial crunchiness of the rice and nuts, moderately sweet though in no way as sweet as a flapjack or even a rice crispy cake and other than the fact that there are a few chocolate chips which are almost unnoticeable it tastes more like breakfast than anything else.
These are the kinda things you could con kids into eating making them think that they are getting a sweet bar when I dare say that one of these would be better for them and more healthy although as I stated earlier they are only 26g and rather small to boot so I wouldn’t be surprised if more than one was needed. A fully grown adult could quite easily eat one of these in about 2 mouthfuls so if you take that into account I doubt that whatever Dan paid for them was totally worth it.
They are made my the Mars manufacturers Masterfoods surprisingly as neither the box nor the individual wrappers have every language imaginable printed upon them like they are so fond of doing with all their other products although the box does say that they are known by the name “ Balisto “ in other countries.
On the whole however not bad although somewhat smaller than I would have liked and not as solid nor chewy as a regular flapjack or muesli bar but still the taste is nice if you have 2 or 3 to sate your appetite between meals and probably a whole lot healthier than most candy bars.
I was in the supermarket the other day looking for cereal bars to take to work for breaktimes. As with most products these days, I was totally spoiled for choice. Eventually I decided on Chocolate Chip Trackers, simply because I haven’t had them for ages.
I bought a box of 8 bars for £1.45. That works out at just over 18 pence per bar. A common problem with anything sold in a multi-pack though, is that the product tends to be a bit smaller ... ...with Trackers.
Masterfoods describe Trackers as, ‘ Choc-chip cereal bars with chewy oats, nuts cornflakes and crisped rice with chocolate chips. Most of which tend to fall off the top when you open the bar. I then spend most of my break chasing nuts and choc chips which a merrily bouncing across the table.
Taste
Choc-chip Trackers taste fantastic. You can pick out all the individual flavours of the component ingredients. And, of course, ...

Advantages: Crnch, chew, chom, squidge... mmmm! Disadvantages: You may want to put a bib on! ;o)
What would life be like with out tracker bars?? Well my life for a start, would definitely consist of many hungry mornings!
Being a student, who has 8.30am lectures three days every week and who lives about an hour and a half away from university, I very rarely get time to wake up in early in the mornings to make breakfast.. If I did, I would probably have to be up at 6 instead of 6.30 and you know what, nothing is more pleasurable and enjoyable ... ...want to be up!
So yeah, there is just no way I have time for breakfast... so what do I do?? How can I miss the most important meal of the day? I know what happens when I don't have breakfast, by about 10.30am my stomach turns in to a very amateur orchestra!! I swear, if you're sitting next to me, you will not tell it to "encore"! it also means that I am know longer able to think or carry out any logical processing… mind you, I'm sure you wouldn't ...

Advantages: Quite Tasty, Full Of Energy Disadvantages: Lots Of Fat, Quite Messy To Eat
...UK under license from the Mars group of companies.
Anyway let's get straight into the review......
APPEARANCE & TASTE
On removing the Bar from its wrapper the first thing that I note is that there is a fairly strong smell of Oats. This is hardly surprising since the Bar itself comprises of lots of bits of Oats stuck together with a Syrup like glue.
On the top of the Bar there are a few flakes of Chocolate Chip but these are rather sparse and ... ...and Crispy Rice.
Biting into the Bar there is a definite crunch and the initial taste is of the somewhat bitter taste of the Oats but this is quickly mixed with the much sweeter taste of the Syrup. The Syrup has a lovely Treacle like taste to it and helps to give the overall taste of the Bar a bit of a kick.
After a couple more bites of the Bar there are other flavours that begin to creep in too. The first of these are those of the Rice and Cornflakes, ...

A snack for 137 cals. And you get chocolate included. You can't really moan at that.
Technical stuff:
Each bar is 27g. You get six in a box for approx 99p. That works out at 16.5 pence each.
There are 7.5% of chocolate chips in each bar.
Taste:
Chewy, yet crispy,a strange, but nice combination. The chocolate chips are the best bits if you ask me, but if that doesn't appeal there are other varieties you can try.
Size:
27g. Doesn't give you ... ...then you will probably have two, but they are yummy.
Downside:
Unfortunately it isn't a good idea to put these in your kids lunchboxes as they contain peanuts. I don't know about your kids' school, but at my daughters' they aren't allowed to take peanut products in because we unfortunately have two children and a teacher with severe allergies.
Upside:
More for Mum. I love them. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry I use them as a subsitute for breakfast. ...

Advantages: Healthier than a chocolate bar, a nice snack Disadvantages: Well if you have nut allergies you can't eat it, far too small
...and crisped rice.
Manufacturers- Mars manufactuters Masterfoods
They come in four flavours (which I know of any way);
Strawberry
Banana
Chocolate chip
Roast Nut, which is basically no flavour
All of these flavours, except for Roast Nut appear in seperate opinions so this one is just about Chocolate chip.
I seem to eat these most days at college, during mornings. I also ate them at school, well when the machine had any. I find they seem to ... ...pretty measly, I mean the Mars Bar weighs 54g and it's cheaper in some cases too. Is it any wonder that people don't eat healthily, when the healthy option leaves you undernourished and out of pocket.
Calories and energy- I know there are a lot of people who are concerned with how many calories they are putting into themselves, so for their benefit, one of these bars, 37g, contains 755 kJ of energy and 180 kcal.
Multipack- They also come in multipack ...
