Advantages: Quality guitar with great sound Disadvantages: Perhaps not quite worth the rrp
...I bought this guitar from the USA for a bargain price of £430 around 3 years ago and it is still serving me well. It is a dark brown all-mahogany guitar (not the light-coloured one pictured).
It has a warm, rich, balanced sound and I am often complemented about it by whoever plays it, but i'm not entirely sure it is worth the £630 they are selling for on GAK. I also own a Yamaha FG-402MS which cost me £130 (used), and whilst the Martin certainly sounds better, it doesn't sound anywhere near 4 or 5-times better than the Yamaha. I think it may be worth saving a bit more money and buying a higher end Martin and buying a Yamaha FG series guitar until then as they are in my opinion the best value quality acoustic guitars available....

Advantages: warm sound, For a range of styles, time proven dreadnaught design. Disadvantages: Laminated back and sides
...I baught the guitar about a year ago and have played it nearly every day since. I play Jazz, folk and blues fingerstyle and the Martin suits my style of playing. The guitar has a solid spruce top and laminated mahogany back and sides giving it a very warm sound that has improved after playing. My first impressions of the guitar was how well it was built. It had no rough edges and no other noticable imperfections. When buying the guitar i was considering a Taylor 214 and a Yamaha LL. I recomend buying the Taylor equivelent if a brighter sound is required. I didnt buy the Yamaha as it sounded dull due to old strings and the shop keeper would not replace them for me. I have played the yamaha since and if i had the choice again i would buy the Yamaha as you get solid back and sides for the money and i love the sound that Bert Jansch gets out...

Advantages: Looks/Sound/Playability Disadvantages: Price (if your cheap)
...When it comes to hand-crafted guitars, the CF Martin Company does have a bit of a head start on its competition. It's that they've been making guitars since 1833 or so, and it just so happens that they are very much a part of acoustic guitar folklore in the minds of acoustic guitarists worldwide. While the stories of people haphazardly discovering old pre-war Martins may bring a mist to the eyes of many admirers and collectors, the C.F. Martin Company has worked hard to preserve that legendary hand-crafted status and to empower their current models to have that "something special" sound, feel and look about them.
Sounds Good to Me
The SPD-16W (the W stands for walnut back and sides) doesn't disappoint us as we put it through its paces. First off, the sound is F-U-L-L. The bass notes have this presence about them, not boomy...

My recent review on the Wii console gave it much praise which I still feel was well justified. The games we had at Christmas were all very good playable and lots of fun, so our anticipation to playing the latest addition to the collection would have been more
