The story itself is very dull and boring, it is to do with the masters of evil and plotting explosions, the typical cartoon hero game scenario. However this one hasn’t really been thought about much and comes across as very boring and the cut scenes are bad as well, making you skip them after a while. The title sounds really good and hearing what it was about, which was about taking control of numerous of your favourite hero characters from the Marvel collection and then battling out with the classic villains. Sounds rather fun, but let me tell you, it’s not. Well at least not from the GBA view, I have not experienced the other versions, but I don’t really want to having experienced this. This is possibly the worst game I have ever played on the Game Boy Advance.
The story itself is very dull and boring, it is to do with the masters of evil and plotting explosions, the typical cartoon hero game scenario. However this one hasn’t really been thought about much and comes across as very boring and the cut scenes are bad as well, making you skip them after a while. The narrator / guide is very annoying as well and doesn’t seem to want to let you get on with the game at times. It is very much of a start and stop game at the beginning, not a very nice touch. The only nice thing in my opinion about the story is the heroes that you can choose from as it allows you to be some of your favourites, other than this it is a real let down.
The graphics are incredibly bad. They make the Game Boy Advance look bad, the characters look just about what they should do but are not defined at all which is disappointing considering how well some games can look on the Game Boy Advance. The backgrounds are not very imaginative and make you feel as though you are in the same place for long periods of time. Speaking of which, it is hard to tell what type of place you are in as it is not very clear as to the environment. The level design has not been thought out very well because of the backgrounds, identical looking objects and no sense of where to go in some cases. I think that the graphics are very poor in this game and did expect a lot more for a marvel game.
Sound effects are virtually non-existent in this game. However when they are used they are nearly all the same and become very repetitive and boring after a short while. The background level music is nothing special and is quite dull too.
The game play is almost as bad as the graphics, possibly on par with them. Whilst each character has their own move set, there are very few attacks you can do and all seem to have the same effect. The controls are hard to use, and have not been thought out very well. When you are attacked your controls stop responding and the only way to get around it is to let go and repress which is very off putting. This is also quite a big thing whilst in battle as you cannot evade as easy, making the game a bit harder.
Overall I think that this is a dreadful game. It is definitely a game that has not been thought out very well by the creators. When you heard the title before the release you thought that it may be a good game but when you actually experience the game first hand you will become very disappointed. The graphics on it are horrible and ugly, the sound is rubbish, the gameplay is awful and even the story is a big letdown. If you are going to buy and play this game I recommend that you buy the game for a different console as you will have a lot better chance of having a fun time. I definitely do not recommend any one plays this unless they want to see just how bad this game is. I give it a generous 1.5/10.
Longer than the average action/adventure with twenty big mission, great level-design, clever scenarios and mission objectives, fine controls, lots of unlockable extras
Very difficult to get into, can frustrate at times, stealth sections aren't as succesful as the shooting ones, still features 'square-headed' characters (*)
