Mary Queen of Scots

Advantages: Well researched, great story, realistic characterisation.
Disadvantages: Occasional short pieces of repetition.

, aged 5, playing with her four young friends, who remain an important part of the story both through this book and the sequel. At 6 years old she is betrothed to the heir to the French throne, and sent to be brought up in France, to prepare her for being their Queen, as well as that of Scotland. Especially as I have recently read Jean Plaidy?s book Lord Robert, which is equally about Elizabeth I, as well as her special friend in the title, I couldn?t help comparing the two women. Both had difficult lives, both were queens at the same time in history, both had special friends whose wives died in suspicious circumstances, but their personalities were very different. While the most important thing to Elizabeth was to get and maintain power, Mary often let her heart rule her head. Mary had a happier childhood than Elizabeth, but Elizabeth ...

Mary Queen of Scots and Her Exciting Life

Advantages: Funny, lots of information, nicely presented
Disadvantages: Best for children

* Mary Queen of Scots and Her Hopeless Husbands (Dead Famous) Review * This book is part of the quite popular Dead Famous series which I quite recently got in a box set and each book averaged out at about £2 instead of the usual £4.99 which was quite a bargain and encouraged me to buy these books! The books is 208 pages long but could be read quite quickly die to the fact it is similar to the Horrible History books and has various cartoons, letters, pictures in it which keep the book from being boring but also take up quite a large amount of room. This particular book is all about Mary Queen of Scots and her exciting life. Within a week of being born her father died so Mary became Queen of Scots and a monarch ? not bad! She is soon sent over to France to marry her first husband who was a bit useless and was also Queen ...

Queen Victoria - Not Amused by Jailor Mother

Advantages: First in a great 4 book series about Queen Victoria.
Disadvantages: Not quite as interesting as third book in series.

The Life of Victoria, Before She Became Queen THE AUTHOR I have enjoyed all four books in Jean Plaidy's Victoria series, which I think is the best that I have read so far from her historical novels. This is the pen name that Eleanor Burford used when writing her historical novels. This prolific writer used other pseudonyms for different styles of books. These included Victoria Holt, Elbur Ford, Kathleen Kellow, Ellalice Tate, Anna Percival and Philippa Carr THE CAPTIVE OF KENSINGTON Out of over a hundred historical fiction books written by Jean Plaidy, few monarchs have warranted more than one book, in her opinion. However, despite skimming over most of the wide-ranging historical events of the time, the author still writes more about Queen Victoria and her family than any other monarch, with the exception ...
