This has to be one of the best things ever. If like me you cant trust yourself with credit (or if you have poor credit etc or cannot get a credit card, there are no credit checks as you are not obtaining credit) this card is a winner. I investigated this prior to obtaining it and it really is a godsend. The initial cost for the card is just over £9, with a monthly payment of just under £5. However I will add that there is a £2 fee for each cash withdrawal, therefore think before using this as an alternative to banking, withdrawal from a cash machine for banking is usually free. There is also a £10 card cancellation fee. Excellent card for using for online purchases etc, but not purely as an alternative to a bank account. You top up the card at the post office and it is credited within 2 working days. It is impossible to go overdrawn with this card and you cannot get additional charges. You even receive a text message to tell you when the top up has been credited (to save any embarassment ) After that its exactly the same as any credit card and can be used anywhere there is the mastercard logo. It also has the added advantage that you can have a 2nd cardholder 13 years or over, so you could even use this for your teenager and top up as much as is needed!

I think most people leaving comments are missing the point.
This card is good for people who cannot get a credit card or simply DO NOT want one but like the benefits of having a mastercard without the credit and ofcourse those with poor credit.
Very useful to use online for purchases or fees (trying using a solo/meastro for a big company site not in the uk they wont take it)
Who cares about the ATM fees (I don't use atm)? Who cares about the 4.95 monthly fee? only £5, half the commenters on here are probably in debt how many of you can say you have a £0 balance on your credit card bill? and you're shaking your head at a £5 monthly fee

I have to agree with AJB.. I have had one of these cards for a while. I think its excellent value for money. I have no issues with paying a small monthly fee just to have the MasterCard acceptance, rather than Maestro.
As for Car hire (and my main reason for posting). I was actually declined using my card whilst on holiday in Spain. I called cashplus, and they told me that they automatically block car hire for security reasons. However, given I had had my account for a while, they removed the block for me, and I was able to hire the car as planned.
There are many cheaper cards listed on http://www.which-prepaid-card.co.uk/ , but these all appear to be Maestro. From past experience, I have had a number of acceptance issues using this type of card.
Its well worth the money in my book!

I have just posted a review myself and I think this card is great, the ATM fee does not bother me as I never use it. I loved the fact that when I was not going to use it I could change to the pay as you go account with no monthly fees and then change it back when I started to use it again.
Advantages: Honestly can not think of any. Disadvantages: Missing topups, only contact is extortionate 0871 number (90p per min), very unprofessional customer services
