The first thing that hit me when I played Mat Hoffmans Pro BMX is the incredible similarity to both Tony Hawks and Tony Hawks 2. Is this a bad thing? HELL NO! Tony Hawks 1 and 2 are two of the best games I’ve played on any console. I may be a dedicated Ninty but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy great games on other platforms. MHP BMX is in fact made by the same people who made Tony Hawks. The same engine is used and the game plays almost exactly the same. So why’s this game so good? Because of those very reasons I just gave! A game that more than closely resembles Tony Hawks can’t be bad! Can it?!
I picked up the controls amazingly easily. They are just so simple. It’s this kind of simplicity that is missing from games today but thankfully MHP BMX has simplicity in abundance.
You can choose from a number of different modes. My favourite has to be Free Ride. You’re just shoved into a Bike park and you can do what the hell you like. You can practice your stunts, improve your grinding, try out new players and generally get the feel of the game. I played for 4 solid hours on this mode round a friends house and by the time I’d finished I was performing moves that got me 26,250 points!
S, if you’ve practised all you feel you need to, what next? Well, the career mode would be a good choice. It’s exactly the same as the career mode in Tony Hawks and even some of the levels resemble those in Tony Hawks. You have to complete a number of challenges within a certain time limit to unlock a new level. As you keep completing levels more and more bikes and bikers are unlocked setting a whole new lease of life into the game.
Probably the greatest aspect of this game comes in the amazing array of stunts you can pull off. These go from the Superman to the SupermanDoubleseatGrabhandleBarspin. From Backflip Flairs into No Handed Backflip No Handed Flairs. Some of the moves look incredible and you’ll find yourself saying "Surely that’s not possible!?" Well, every single move that is included in this game is possible and has been performed in real life. This makes you appreciate just how talented the bikers really are!
Initially there are 7 bikers to choose from, each with their own unique versions of some of the stunts and their own "Specials". Gradually, as you progress through the career, mode you’ll unlock more bikers.
There is also a wicked two player mode, in which you can go head to head, front peg to front peg against your mates. The two player mode is incredibly addictive and you’ll find yourself playing for hours.
All of this is accompanied by an awesome soundtrack, some of the songs really are great, this game is so involving though that more than half the time you won’t notice the soundtrack. But when you do notice it you’ll be nodding your head and tapping your feet along to it.
With superb looking graphics, gameplay that’s more addictive than chewits and stunts that’ll make you gasp you’ll be asking yourself "What can this game offer that Tony Hawks can’t" Well there are three things: The sheer playability of the damn thing, the stunts and the stunts! They really are that amazing. Even if for nothing else, buy this game for the stunts! You will not, repeat WILL NOT regret it, even if you do have Tony Hawks.
Overall: 9.5/10, it would have been 10/10 if not for the similarity to TH!

Hawk's Pro Skater. The modes, menu and trick system are identical. The main difference is that instead of skating around, performing tricks and collecting videotapes, you're riding a bike, performing tricks and collecting magazine covers. To accommodate the physics of bicycle tricks, the level design is different fromTHPS. Some of the levels are good, but most are relatively bland and aren't as clever as what we've seen before. Despite this flaw, it is the best BMX game currently on the market, but in the context of other extreme sports games it falls short. It's too similar to the originalTHPSand not as good asTHPS2.Despite the fact that it's mostly derivative, the game has a few outstanding features. It contains lots of full-motion video sequences, albeit at the expense of load times. The real gem is the soundtrack, which is a nice mix of punk, electronica, hip-hop and rock. It's definitely one of the best video game soundtracks ever.If you're looking for the best BMX game on the PC, this is it. If you're a fan of extreme sports in general, you'd be better served withTHPS2or waiting forTHPS3. --Raymond M Padilla, Amazon.com

for the road trip inMat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2. You'll join 11 other riders on a tricked-out tear across the US from Oklahoma City to Hawaii. Before you can hang with the likes of Mat "The Condor" Hoffman or Ruben "Pollo" Alcantara, it's advisable to practise your chops on the free ride or session modes, especially if you're a newcomer to tricks-based sport games. It can take a good while on Free Ride's open-ended play time to achieve mastery of the complicated sets of controller taps needed to win trick points.Level access in session or free ride modes depends on what you've unlocked in the road trip phase. To get to the next destination, you'll need to complete a set of four challenges not once but three times (once each in rookie, semi-pro and pro modes). That can be a daunting challenge, especially for beginners. More experienced players may find the search for the final trick that will push them to the next level a little tedious. That said, it's not hard to find a satisfying BMX groove and zoom along on your road trip. The game also includes several multiplayer options, including HORSE, Tag, Halfpipe Hell, Graffiti War and Push , where you try to out-trick your opponent and make his side of the screen smaller by increasing your side of the screen. Graphically, the game detail is pretty awesome--from the bikes and riders to the glitzy lights of the Las Vegas background. The game is also populated with some fine tunes, ranging from LL Cool J to Iggy Pop. --Agen Schmitz
