**Women's Wear**
Whatever your age you can find something to wear at Matalan - from the trendy fashions for teenagers to the more classic type clothing for the more mature woman. They stock lingerie, nightwear, suits, jackets, shoes, jeans.
**Men's Wear**
The Menswear section has a good range of clothing at affordable prices. I buy my sons' school shirts and trousers from there. One of my son' who is now 15 has been wearing mens trousers since the age of 13. He is a prop forward in rugby and is known affectionately by many as 'Tank'! I have always had difficulty finding him school trousers. I was very impressed, therefore, when I discovered that Matalan did a range of smart trousers with discrete elasticated waistbands. I can get a pair of these trousers for about £10 and two shirts for £8. A bargain..
I have washed the clothing time and time again and it always comes up as good as new. We have been to a few weddings over the last few years and I have had to kit out my sons with suits, ties and shirts. For £50 each I was able to do this and they did look smart! As they are still growing I did not want to pay a fortune for the suits which they will only wear once or twice!
They also sell reasonably priced tracksuits and sportswear - many brand name items - and a range of casual trousers, shorts T shirts ideal for holidays. Matalan is one of the few places I can get decent underwear and socks. Nevertheless, their 'Jeff Banks' undies are still a bit pricey...Why is it that young males have to wear their undies showing above their jeans? Branded undies of course!
**Children's Wear**
Since the demise of shops such as Adam's and Woolworth's Matalan is one of the few places that you can buy decent quality children's clothes with out them costing an arm and a leg.
**Homeware**
Matalan stocks a wide range of homeware bedding, pillows, cutlery, crockery, mirrors, storage systems, pans, sheets, pictures, candles, Among my many purchases from the homeware section I have had some great quality towels and sheets from there.
**Returns Policy**
Matalan have a 28 days with receipt, credit note without returns policy and I have never experienced any trouble returning clothes.
**Customer Service**
Customer service is good. The staff are polite and helful. There are good sized changing rooms. The only downside is that queues are often long at the tills at busy times.
**Sales**
The sales in Matalan are excellent. They usually have reductions of 50% to 75%. Often towards the end of a sale they practically 'give away items. I did buy a lovely ladies blouse from there for just 50p. Every time I wear it people comment how lovely it looks!
**The 'Matalan Card'**
Until recently customers had to pay £1 in order to have a Matalan card which you had to get if you wished to shop at Matalan. However, this is no longer the case and the card is free. However, I do believe that the card and its necessity is a contentious issue with customers ( including my husband). When they are asked for the card at the till and they don't have one I have seen many an irate customer's stress levels going through the roof! Many people do not see the point in having a card as it does not have any obvious benefit such as a loyalty or points scheme....it is viewed by many with suspicion!
Overall I think that Matalan is an excellent store and I can usually find anything I need there. Another great benefit is that they have pretty long opening hours and are a boon when you need something at short notice or in an emergency!
Advantages: Value for money, quality items Disadvantages: May have to travel to find your nearest store
...men about this wonderful store. Matalan have plenty to offer the male shopper. They are not just limited to ladies and children's clothing but mens too; alongside household goods toys and games. It is certainly a shop I regularly visit despite having to travel 20 miles to get to my nearest one.
Matalan used to be available to members only and offered its wares at near trade prices. Since their early days they now open their doors to all and sundry ... ...have opened up a whole new shopping experience to all.
Clothing is the main product which they stock, gents' ladies and children's. Here you will find both well known brands and lesser known makes. My experience has always been to find the clothing of good if not exceptional quality, hard wearing, fashionable and best of all very reasonably priced. You can expect to make between 20 and 50 % savings over normal retail outlets and so provides great ...

Advantages: cheap products and a wide range Disadvantages: some are cheap and not so cheerful
Matalan only used to allow certain members of the public to become official Matalan members but now everybody can join. It costs a £1 join (for life) and is currently the fastest growing fashion retailer in the UK with over 100 stores nationwide.
The premise of Matalan is that they buy directly from the manufacturer and therefore keep their costs to a minimum. The benfit to the customer is that these lower costs are passed on and prices are hardly ... ...for men, women and children. Matalan don't sell just the cheapest brands they could find, they also sell certain designer brands like CK, Lee Copper and Wrangler to name just a few. The second section is a household section offering a diverse range in rugs, mirrors, cutlery, crockery and the like. In store customer service or at least on the very few times i have had to ask a member of staff for help they have always been very friendly and helpful. ...

Advantages: Good quality and affordable clothing Disadvantages: No store near where I live
...came across the name of Matalan during a TV discussion about the demise of Marks and Spencer.
Apparently the shopping habits of shoppers have changed drastically over the past five years.
In the past shoppers would pay over the odds for quality clothing from M & S etc. Now they would rather substantially pay less for inferior quality goods. The company most benefiting from this new shopping trend is the discount retailer Matalan.
Over the past ... ...Unfortunately there is no Matalan store near where I live. So I had to rely on media reports on its upward progress.
In May 2000 I visited my parents in Hull. One day we went to buy some food from Asda at a local retail park. In close proximity to Asda was a Matalan store. I managed to persuade my parents to park near the store. Car parking is free.
The first thing to hit you on entering the store is the vast area of floor space. Wheelchair shoppers ...

Advantages: Cheap prices, good quallity, excellent value for money Disadvantages: Popular sizes are sold quickly
...remember when I first discovered Matalan but I am very glad I did. I have been brought up not to waste money and never spend too much on clothes and shoes. So Matalan and I have a good relationship together in the way that I can get more for my money.
The Store
=======
Matalan are a very large company and has many outlets across the UK so there is bound to be one near you somewhere. The one I visit is a 20 minute drive away and is based in a large ... ...away a week.
At Matalan they have plenty of socks to choose from but since I am always buying him socks I can get 10 pairs of socks for £3. That's is not a typo, that's three pounds for ten pairs of socks, which works out to a nice 30p per pair or 15p a sock. Wouldn't it be great to buy them individually? As he always gets a hole in one but not the other but luckily since I stick to white socks he can mix and match with a different set. Thank goodness

Advantages: Good quality clothes at a good price Disadvantages: Shopping environment isn't as great as high-street stores, but that's to be expected considering the low prices they ask.
Matalan is a great shop which deals mainly in clothing. I'm sure that if they applied their award-winning principles to a more expansive range of goods, they would do brilliantly - and I, as a customer, would be better off as well. I don't really know the secret of how Matalan is able to offer such great low prices on clothes, but somehow they manage to do so. There is no sacrifice in quality of the clothes; in fact, I have a selection of high quality ... ...children's range as well, so Matalan is a good choice to buy those "cool" shirts that would otherwise break your bank. There's not only clothing - a section of Matalan is dedicated to household items as well, all good quality and all relatively inexpensive. Since Matalan offers such great value for money, there are undoubtedly always many other like-minded individuals like myself on the lookout for bargains. When I first went to my local Matalan ...

Advantages: Cheaper than the high street , most things under one roof, parking on site (usually) Disadvantages: Can be messy and sometimes the staff are unhelpful
This was my very first review but I have decided to edit it a bit here and there as Matalan has been re-vamped and needed a bit more recommendation from yours truly. I was a bit hard on the store originally but now I can safely say its well worth joining.
The two things I am good at in life as my husband says is shopping and eating, so I hope these few words of wisdom help you in your quest to hunt out a bargain in the January sales.
WHAT IS MATALAN?
Matalan first came to this country in 1985. It's an American idea that came over here courtesy of its founder John Hargreaves. Matalan claims that it "offers outstanding quality at prices that are simply unmatched".
To be honest I do agree because I haven't yet found anyone that sells Falmer Jeans so cheap.
SO WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: No online shopping
No I haven?t, got religion, but I did have a near religious experience in Matalan the other day. It?s my favourite shop for buying clothes at the moment.
I have heard Matalan called many names, over the years, Tatalan, Tattyland, and several less flattering ones, but personally, I think it?s a great (cheap) shop. Not so tatty actually, as I was in there just yesterday to purchase two jackets, and one pair of trousers of the finest quality, I?ll have you know. Yes cheap it may be, and cheerful yes, but not tatty and not rubbish.
Matalan is like one of those big warehouse type of shops, where they pile ?em high and sell ?em cheap. The store can be divided into four main categories,
LADIES
Accessories Casual Footwear Sports Underwear and Nightwear
MENS
Casual Footwear Sports Underwear ...

Advantages: Reasonable prices Disadvantages: out of city
Where to start!
Matalan is an out of city shop (found in retail parks outside the main town), they have over 200 Matalanshops across the UK and offer some very good bargains!
Matalan has up to the minute fashion and is very reasonably priced and some items are cheaper than the usual shops (like New Look etc.)
Matalan have a reward store card which offers up to 50% off with special offers sent to you once registered.
Matalan have Ladies Clothes and Shoes, Mens Clothes and Shoes, Childrens and Babies Clothes and Shoes, Homeware ranging from utensils to garden ornaments, and a Book section mainly for kids that I have seen.
They offer Instore and Online clothing, so if you cant get to a store then atleast you can shop online!
Matalan is a great place for bargains too, especially when the sale season starts! I picked up ...
