Matalan (Shop)

Matalan is predominantly a clothes store which also sells some household items...

I've only ever come across a Matalan on a retail park or out of the city centre. I've never come cross one in your ordinary shopping centre and this may because all the ones I've visited are probably too big for a shopping centre.

You do need a matalan card before you are able to purchase anything though. I've been a member of matalan for quite a few years and I remember having to pay for my membership and it was by invite only (I think I got mine through my employer) I believe that this changed about 5-6 years ago so now anyone can go in and get a card and there is no charge attached.

One of the things that I love about Matalan are the shoes.... what great shoes for a great price...! Most shoes or funky high gladiator sandals are about £12.00 which is an absolute bargain when you compare to other cheap shoe shops (such as brantano) They aren't the best of quality but they are worth £12.00 and I've had some of my matalan shoes for 2 years so they do last...

I do find with matalan clothes that its a bit hit or miss though... sometimes I find some great stuff and other times there is nothing I like..but the prices are low and the quality can be good depending on the type of item you are buying

The household range has also improved in leaps and bounds since they have got various interior designers involved and they now have an Influence range (Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowin and Colin and Justin are my particular favourites in this range). I just wish we had a larger department in my local store!
