Mateus Rose was launched in Northern Portugal in 1942. It is made from a blend of carefully selected Portuguese grape varieties, namely Baga, Bastardo, Touriga nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Pinheira - sourced primarily from Portugal's premium Douro and Bairrada DOC regions. I first tried this wine almost eighteen years ago when a girl I worked with couldn't believe someone who had been drinking (legally) for eleven years hadn't tried what was her favourite wine, so she bought me a bottle for my birthday. I duly took it home and had a couple of glasses whilst watching T.V. and from what I ... more

Advantages Advantages a nice versatile rose

Disadvantages Disadvantages not my top wine

Mateus Rose I generally get most of my wine knowledge from what I have drunk and what I like. Most of what I drink when it comes to trying new varieties of wine comes from my mother. She is quite a big wine drinker and has been for many years so she has tried a good few and has quite a lot that she likes to alternate between. Advantages Advantages refreshing

Disadvantages Disadvantages nothing I can think of

I'm becoming quite impartial to the odd glass of wine in the evening , mixed with lemonade of course as I'm not a big drinker and just have a glass every night to chill out with, having previously not drank for years I have started to have the odd glass with friends when we have our girlie nights in and have found that the rose and white wines are my favorites, but not all of them as I have tried a few and not liked, but this Mateus Rose Wine is really quite nice. I like the bottle as it's easty to spot on the supermarket shelf and is quite attractice and looks original and sophisticated. This ... more

Advantages Advantages Its so good, someone left it behind

Disadvantages Disadvantages It compelled me to write my first review

Had a house party and this lovely bottle of mateus rose was left behind... god knows why! Just cracked it open with a couple of friends and found that the notes in the wine are rather tangy with a touch of sparkle. A little unusual for typical rose wine however seeing its price through further product research I found it has lived up to its value, take that how you like it! The shape of the bottle is rather appealing however not easily concealed upon one's person. We found the cork quality rather poor, as it was difficult to remove through excessive corkscrewing, I'd like to note at this point ... more
