The Matrix Amplify Volumising System is a whole range of products, including shampoos etc, which proved a big hit in the USA. As soon as they arrived here I was keen to try it. But then I discovered how they work. They work by lifting the cuticle of the hair so that it looks thicker. Lifting the cuticle, however, is exactly what happens when you perm or dye your hair and, as we know, causes damage. So surely this must, in the long term, cause some ... ...cuticle once and then use products which aim to get it to lie flat again - but once it's lifted there is always a weakness in the hair and it's never as strong again. The root lifter, the only product from the range I dared try, doesn't work on this system - it contains various natural extracts designed to volumise and lift. It's OK but results are undramatic and it does leave a sticky residue if you use enough to have a definite effect. I won't ... more
