After looking at a few I decided that a cheap TV would do the job and so arrived at the Matsui 14" Portable TV. This particular one is a 1420 T.
I bought it for £60, more than enough to spend bearing in mind the usage it was going to get.

The TV is the usual black plastic with vents all over the place. The plastic quality is far from great as you would expect but it is sufficient and looks reasonable enough.

Picture quality is surprisingly good on the TV with good colour definition and plenty of different settings to change. There is only one picture / aspect to be found at 4:3.

A while back I was looking for a small portable TV which I could stick in my spare bedroom for guests and more so to use with my PS2.
The screen is 14" which I think is about 34cm and runs at 50MHz, not the biggest or fastest but suitable for a portable without paying silly money for an LCD. In fact the screen is not even flat.
Picture quality is surprisingly good on the TV with good colour definition and plenty of different settings to change. There is only one picture / aspect to be found at 4:3.
The sound on the TV is Mono, there is no stereo to be found here. That said when you watch the TV or play games on it the sound is fine, it does what its supposed to. There are no obvious places for the sound to come out so I suspect it is hidden behind one of the grills.
The remote is fine also, offering the standard TV controls, sleep function etc. With the 1420T you also get the teletext option if in fact anybody still uses that these days. The handset is laid out well with larger buttons for changing the channel and volume. It even has Fasttext controls…woooooooooh. The remote is of a better quality than the TV and sort of looks like it is not for that TV.
On the back there is a single aerial point which you can use with the supplied aerial. The supplied one is basic and not a good receiver so I would recommend buying a better one. Also on the back there is the all important Scart socket to plug your PS2 or XBOX in to.
When you first setup the TV there is nothing you need to do, just unpack, plug it in and turn it on...
I haven't had any troubles with the TV yet so fingers crossed.
Overall, not a bad little TV, you get what you pay for which is a working TV. Cheap to buy as a spare TV or one for the kids to use.
