Advantages: Funny fatasy fiction.
Disadvantages: Draws a little too much on Prachett and others.

...Before and after is Matthew Thomas' debut novel inspired by the sixth century French prophet, Nostradamus and his famous prediction that "In the year 1999, and seven months from the sky will come the great king of Terror. He will bring back to life the great king of the Mongols. Before and after War reigns happily unrestrained." With all the doom mongering and speculation during the run-up to the millennium, the success of the book, released in February 1999, was not unsurprising. ...10 Stories from Thomas and Friends is a great book for children of all ages. THE STORIES 1 - Trouble Near the Tracks. Thomas is taking a cow to the fair when on his way his comes across Bertie the Bus who has a flat tyre. Thomas tries to help Bertie but as he does so his cow starts to wonder off. Along comes James who rescues the cow and takes it to the fair for Thomas as he is taking hay there. Thomas and Bertie wait for help and when it arrives and Bertie is fixed they arrive at the fair to find Thomas' cow has won first prize as best cow in the county. 2 - Harold needs Help. Harold the hellicopter isnt feeling well on morning and cant get his propeller to work properly. Sir Topham Hatt (The old Fat Controller!) asks Thomas to take his down to the repair shop.
