Well its time to write a new review for Ciao as I haven’t written one in ages!! So much has happened though in the last few months I haven’t had a chance!! Anyway, I thought I’d break myself in gently writing about something I’m passionate about – make-up!!
I’ve worn mascara since I was about 11 years old and have switched from brand to brand continuously. As I’ve got better jobs etc I’ve tried more expensive ones from the cheap ones I bought as an early teen but finally I’ve found a mascara that is not only in a price range that many will be able to afford, it does a fantastic job too!!!
PRODUCT The mascara I’m talking about is Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara. The product promises to give your eyelashes 200% more volume whilst being
smudge proof. Being a big fan of big eyelashes I decided to give it a try.
PACKAGING The mascara comes in a dark bluetube with gold writing on it. It does not come in a box, and you usually find them all stacked together. It does not particularly stand out on the shelf and unless you went to the counter specifically looking for mascara it wouldn’t jump out at you. I quite like the packaging though, because it is smart looking and looks expensive. After a while though, the gold writing starts to come off by which time its time for me to buy another one anyway.
DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT On opening the mascara, you will find a very basic looking wand. Some of the new mascaras have a ‘comb’, which you use, but I don’t like the look of those. The brush does not have any fancy spines, etc so at first I thought that the mascara wouldn’t be any different to others as some of the brushes are designed to give maximum volume etc, but I guess it’s the actual mascara fluid that is meant to give the volume in this case. The smell is pleasant although very prominent when I smell it so this may be not so suitable for people with sensitivities.
PRICE I bought mine in the market for £4.99 but this is the cheapest anywhere I’ve seen. It’s usually around £6.00 in most places. I would definitely recommend going to the make-up counter in your local market to see if you can get it any cheaper first. I still think that it’s a good price at the higher price as even cheaper mascaras like Boots 17 now retail for around £4.50. Max Factor is a well-known make up artist and the quality of the product is very good so the price is definitely justified.
WHERE TO PURCHASE FROM Like I previously said I bought mine from the market but in Swansea the market is massive and many towns may not have make-up shops like ours do! I’ve seen this mascara in chemists, Boots and Superdrug. Max Factor is a well known brand so I would have thought that they would have it in more places that sell make up as well but the three places above are where I’ve personally seen them.
DOES IT WORK? Yes! Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara is a dramatic look mascara. I usually put 1-2 coats on in the day, as I like my eyelashes dramatic all of the time. If I’m going out though I put loads of coats on and my eyelashes look huge!! However, my eyelashes are quite long to begin with so if you have very short eyelashes the effect may be different. The mascara claims to volumise your lashes by 200% and mine are certainly at least that much thicker when I put it on. I only buy mascara in black where the effect is very dramatic - I’m not sure what the brown and other colours are like. I would say if you are looking for a huge effect buy black although brown is more suitable for many people for daytime use.
ADVANTAGES The advantages of this mascara are that the packaging looks smart, it definitely does what it claims to do, is made by a well known make up artist and comes in a range of colours.
DISADVANTAGES The gold writing comes off after a while, but in my case I’ve usually used most of it by then. However if you used mascara only now and again, by the time you came to renew it the packaging would look really scruffy. Usual price not favoured by everyone but can be bought more cheaply if look in the right places! Also it claims to be smudge proof, but I would change that to smudge resistant as I’ve managed to smudge it occasionally but it doesn’t smudge half as much as some other mascaras I’ve used.
OVERALL Overall, I’m very impressed with this mascara. It’s mid-price range mascara that does what an expensive one can do. When new it doesn’t clump very much, but still makes eyelashes really big and thick. I recommend this to anyone who loves their eyes to stand out!!

Since reading your review I purchased this mascara from Superdrug for £7.99. It's a good mascara and does do what it says. Great Review x

Advantages: Not for wall-flowers. Dramatic defining, lengthening and thickening effect. Easy to remove. Disadvantages: Not waterproof, but then it wouldn't be so easy to remove.
