‘But mum this one is three pounds cheaper than the False Lash Effect!’

‘Yes but what is it like, love?’

‘The same…except it says Fusion on it as well.’

‘OK then, go on, get it me.’

Kids!!

I had asked for my usual Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara for my birthday a couple of months ago, and my teenage daughter had rang from Boots to say there was a New Kid on the Block that is supposed to be the updated version of my favourite eye cosmetic. What could I say? She *is* a poor student and I tend to love all things ‘Max Factor’ anyway?!

The Hype
***********

Checking out the Max Factor website to find out exactly what the blurb would say it talked a good fight with: “Our mega volumising brush has been fused with our ultimate length formula to deliver incredible lash glamour. It’s a winning, wowing combination: both volumising AND lengthening effect means you can create a more impactful look than ever before. It’s set to become a must-have miracle for dramatic eyes.” Well, it sounded fabulous…now I just had to wait to my birthday to try it out!

Now like all girlie girls - no matter what their age - I love getting new makeup. It’s the thrill of the unknown. The new packaging, how well it will perform, will it be as good as all the hype surrounding it – well soon enough it was time to see?!

The Product
**************

On opening my new pressie I was immediately impressed with the sleek purple packaging this mascara came enveloped in – it looked classy and rather expensive for the introductory £7.99 price it had cost in Boots in May 2011. Made by Procter & Gamble UK, this False Lash Effect Fusion boasted a decent 13.1ml contents and a shelf life once opened (of course) of 6 months. The tube itself was splinter-sealed for hygiene, and it took some getting off it was so tight I can tell you! Made of recyclable plastic I thought it looked elegant with its slightly rounded body and tapering top. The Max factor logo was printed in stylish silver around the top edge of the tube just under the lid as was the name of the mascara – including ‘Volume & Length’.
On opening the tube I must admit to being instantly disappointed as the wand looked exactly like my old False Lash Effect brush, quite chunky with very short bristles. I think because it was a new product I expected a new wand too…but then again why change perfection? The original wand worked wonderfully well with a slightly narrowing outer edge to reach those harder-to-reach lashes.

Of course I tried it straight away that morning like a kid with a new toy!

My Opinion
*************

Well I’ve been using my wonderful new mascara for over two months now and I adore it! As is the current fashion of trying to achieve the effect of false lashes without the hassle or trouble of sticking falsies on your eyes by buying these new generation cosmetics, I honestly think this makeup is the next best thing to going to all that fiddly trouble.
Max Factor’s Fusion is the next step up from their basic False Lash Effect that I really didn’t believe could be bettered until I tried this stuff.
To apply I simply curled my naked lashes with my eyelash curlers first then brushed on a thin first coat, waiting a couple of minutes for that to dry before painting on a thicker second coat. The mascara went on like a dream on both applications – smooth, moist but not runny, and not a dreaded clump in sight. It adhered without fault and there has never been any flaking that can sometimes be associated with cheaper brands of mascara.

Marvellous!

But for me where it bettered its predecessor was that it in fact dried slightly quicker, enabling me to curl my lashes again achieving that wide-eyed look I so like to sport. My green eyes are quite small so any enhancement by cosmetic means is appreciated, Fusion coated each lash like a dream – evenly and right down to the root. I found the wand easy to handle and did not have too much mascara between every coat, a real bug-bear of mine with cheaper makes. The short bristles helped accuracy and no overloading of the thick black liquid.

The cherry that topped the cake for me, however, was later when I went out for a birthday meal and I applied a third coat to freshen up and thicken my already luscious lashes, as Fusion really came into its own then creating a voluminous impact that looked sensational!

Betty Boop eat your heart out, as I sported rich eyelashes that looked like I’d walked out from a professional makeover! I was over the moon with my new mascara instilling me with confidence on my special night. My eyes were framed with lovely long lengthened lashes and I got compliments galore that evening!

I cannot recommend this new eye makeup highly enough. Sleek, thickening, smooth and feels wonderful on I find myself fluttering my eyelashes just for the sheer hell of it! Its longevity is brilliant too; lasting all day without needing topping up means I do not carry this tube around with me - although its handbag-suitable size would mean that was no problem. Because my particular mascara is not waterproof it comes off easily with soap and water, makeup wipes or the like, and luckily I have not suffered from Panda-Eye-Syndrome even when getting caught in impromptu summer rain storms. You coat it on and it stays put until you are ready to remove it, Simples.

The only thing the product doesn’t specify that I would normally look for is if it is hypoallergenic, but I have had no adverse reaction to using this makeup on a daily basis…

If like me you love lovely thick lashes without the hassle of fashionable falsies please give this a go you won’t be disappointed! A full 5 Stars from me…Oh and my tube is still going strong two and a half months later by the way, folks! When my Fusion mascara eventually runs out I would be more than happy to pay the full RRP of £11.99 if I can’t find it on offer, as for me it’s worth every lash-lengthening penny!
