Forget my opinion dated 11th January 2002 (Rimmel 1000 kisses) – I hadn’t heard of Lipfinity from Max Factor then – priced at £9.99 from most supermarkets and pharmacies this product is a must have for any one in the public eye (oh that makes me sound famous!) or for anyone who wants a Catalina style pout (umm maybe that’ll put you off!!!).
~ ~ PRICE AND AVAILABILITY ~ ~
I have heard recently that many local independent pharmacies are reluctant to stock Max Factor products as the minimum order requirement is £2000 and with Rimmel being a cheaper though sometimes inferior product, they find it more profitable to opt for the cheaper option. For this reason I suspect that you may be better off purchasing this product for the customary £9.99 fee at a larger pharmacy (Boots, Dallas) or at a supermarket. There is a website at http://www.lipfinity.com/, and although they do try hard to demonstrate the 20 Lipfinity
colours available I would recommend testing the colours on your finger tips as opposed to taking their ‘colour chart’ as gospel. The reason I state this is because the product stains / dyes your lips and if you are unhappy with the results you are stuck with it for approximately 5 to 10 hours – buyer beware!
I have followed links from Ciao on this product, and was surprised to find Ebay selling my favourite colour – type 70 named spicy – at £3.60! Bargain; let’s just hope it wasn’t used! I got outbid in the final minutes – but hey we can’t win them all!
~ ~ PRESENTATION OF PRODUCT ~ ~
The presentation box portrays the luxury that you are purchasing as it is gold with the max factor logo. Inside you will find a 23ml or 0.07 fluid ounce colourant which Max Factor term as ‘Paint for lips’, you also receive a 1.9gor 0.06 ounce stick of moisturisingtop coat (Vaseline in common terms! Oops bet I get told off for that!) The presentation box is in line with the £9.99 price tag. If like me, you like to get value for your money, you may be suitably impressed and having had the product personally recommended to me by a work colleague – the box confirmed that I was paying for ‘that little bit extra’.
~ ~ WHAT IT SAYS ON THE PACKAGE, COMPARED TO REAL LIFE! ~ ~
Quote:
‘ For incredible colour that really does last all day, the secret is Lipfinity. A revolutionary 2-step system for your lips – long lasting colourplusmoisture. Apply the colour first thing in the morning and it will last through coffee, lunch, and afternoon tea, you really can forget all about it.’
Reality: Yep the colour is great and it does last longer than any other lipstick I have tried – however perhaps I have plenty of mouth action during the day, but I find that after application at about 8am, I tend to have to top up the colour at 1pm – then it will last until about 7. Still a good result, though it doesn’t do exactly what it says on the tin (to coin a phrase – is that the expression?).
~ ~ APPLICATION ~ ~
Quote:
‘Use on clean lips. STEP 1. For longer lasting colour, apply a thin layer of paint for lips, the wait until it dries, a minute or so. STEP 2. For moisture and shine, apply the moisturising topcoat over the paint for lips. You can reapply the topcoat as often as you like throughout the day, to refresh both feel and shine.’
Reality:
Definitely ensure your lips are clean before application. The topcoat sets quite quickly and any traces of foundation, powder etc that may be lurking near those luscious lips will end up distorting the end result. I personally wait a couple of minutes and then apply the topcoat. Working in the front line of a bank, I don’t have the opportunity to keep topping up with the moisturising (Vaseline) coat – this may be why I have to re-apply colour after 5 hours.
~ ~ HOW DOES IT FEEL? ~ ~
Initially it’s hard to get used to as I feel that the special ingredient of Perma-Tone (lip semi permanent dye) does tighten and dry your lips. However the instant the topcoat is applied, my lips do feel normal again. A downside is that the ‘paint’ stains quite quickly so any error in application can make you end up feeling a bit of a dill!
POSITIVES
1) I have two Lipfinity products on the go – a brown shade (number 70) for work and a pinker shade (number 30) for evening wear. Using them regularly over the last two months, without any other lip product has been quite effective – 60 days wear from two products costing £20.
2) Time saving – I don’t look like a frump without lippy on, just because I haven’t had time to re-apply due to pressures of work.
3) Self-confidence – Knowing I’m well presented has given me a boost.
NEGATIVES
1) I am struggling – but probably the fact that incorrect application and subsequent quick setting could make me look like Coco the clown!
CONCLUSION
Give it a go. Don’t let the price put you off – you may well be pleasantly surprised – I know I was!
