Why is it that all the Ciao surveys that I get sent nowadays only have a reward of 10p? Or am I the only one that's getting those ones? Alexandra x (arrrrgggghhhh - it's gotten worse, the last one I received was only 5p!)

For my hols in September I decided that I would have a look for some long lasting make up pieces that I could wear around the pool without having to keep re-applying.
Having already found 60 day mascara and 24-hour eyeliner my thoughts turned to lippy. As it was for daytime wear I needed something fairly subtle but that would great with a tan. After a bit of research on the internet I came across Max Factor Lipfinity which claims to last for up to 12 hours.
I decided to pop into Boots and have a look at the colour range but before I could get anywhere near the display I was accosted by the Max Factor sales lady who interrogated me on what product I was looking for. After explaining my need for a long lasting lippy for wearing at the swimming pool, she sat me down on a stool in the middle of the shop (not at all embarrassing or anything!) and stared at a my face for a couple of seconds. She then trotted off to the lipfinity display and grabbed a tester
in what looked like a really dark brown colour.
She obviously realised that I did not look impressed by her colour choice but stated that she was a trained make up artist and asked me to trust her and see what I thought of the results.
Oh what the hell, I was already sat on a stool in the middle of a very busy Boots store, feeling like a complete berk, so why not let her slap on whatever concoction she deemed necessary.
The first thing she did was put a bit of blusher on me as she was taking into account the fact that I would have more of a tan when wearing the lippy. Then out came the very dark lipfinity.
This is not an ordinary lipstick. It comes in two parts, first the colour "stain" which applies the actual colour and then once you've let that dry for around 2 minutes, you apply the second stage which is a clear lip balm type product which keeps your lips moist and helps the lipstick to stay shiny. The colour part comes in a tube with an applicator in the lid rather like a lip gloss and the balm is in a twist up applicator pen. They are packaged together in a recyclable cardboard container.
The sales lady applied the colour stain (ref: 180 Spiritual) but wouldn't let me have a mirror until the process was finished. I was getting really nervous at this point.... what if I really hated it? If it really does stay on for 12 hours how would I get rid of it. The sales person explained to me that although it was designed to stay on for up to 12 hours of normal wear, it would easily come off with make-up remover. PHEW!!! Panic over.
The colour stain felt really sticky but I was told that this would soon disappear as the colour "set".
After two minutes of sitting on the stool looking very embarassed with people stood round watching, the colour stain was declared dry enough to apply the balm.
The clear balm glided on over the colour and I was finally allowed to see the result.
Well the sales lady was right, the colour she had picked which looked really dark in the tube was a really nice shade of medium coppery brown which glistened nicely from the application of the balm.
So I was happy with the colour, would the claim of lasting 12 hours prove to be correct.
I thanked the sales lady for her help and made a note of the time (1:15pm). I decided I would be happy if the lippy stayed on until I went to bed that evening.
2:00pm - after finishing my sandwich I checked to see how the lippy was holding out but all the clear balm had worn off. I applied a quick slick of my normal lip balm and the sheen is restored. Looks good so far.
5:30pm - i'd been eating and drinking all afternoon at work and the colour was still looking strong.
7:00pm - even after eating spaghetti bolognese for tea (involving lots of lip licking) the colour still looked good but again no balm left.
10:00pm - i've cleaned my teeth and the colour is still there. I'm very impressed. I'm off to bed.
In the interests of Ciao I decided to do my usual cleanse, tone and moisturising routine but to try and leave the lippy on so I could see if it was still there in the morning - all in the name of science!
The next day 05:30am - I can't believe it but there is actually still some colour left on my lips and none on my pillow! This is a fabulous product!
***The Verdict*** After exhaustive tests (well, almost) I can honestly say that this lipstick lives up to its claim and lasts well over 12 hours. The only reapplication you need to do is the clear lip balm over the top but then that's only if you want a subtle sheen to your lips. My only negative comment is that you will definitely run out of the clear balm top coat before you run out of colour but the good news is that you can buy the balm separately at a cost of £4.99. I wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone who wants an extremely long lasting lipstick.
I'm definitely going back to Boots soon to buy this for my hols.
***Other Info*** Cost - £9.99 (top coat available on its own for £4.99). Available from most major high street cosmetic retailers.
