Several pages of adverts selling bits for my car were in there too, this was fantastic!

As I wandered about the supermarket I say it there on the shelf, not noticing the price I shoved it in the trolley and carried on as normal.

The list of colourful motors goes on!!!
Once upon a time (quite e few years ago, i hasten to add) , I had a little fast car (Suzuki swift Gti) and blasting about in it was the major consumer of all my free time.
Now, whats that got to do with Max Power Magazine??
Well it was just for like minded people like myself, that lived, eat, slept and did other unspeakable things in the car!
The mag had great features on how to make your car faster, louder and more pleasing to the eye. Several pages of adverts selling bits for my car were in there too, this was fantastic!
Now, maybe I have grown up a little since I got married, not sure, but I had to buy a 5 door car and one with a boot used for shopping ..... not speakers, so my days of reading Max power had become something far and few between.... until tonight!
As I wandered about the supermarket I say it there on the shelf, not noticing the price I shoved it in the trolley and carried on as normal.
When it went through the scanner at the till though it flashed up the price.....£3.75 ALMOST £4!!!!
"But" I thought to myself, if it is as good as it was all those years ago when Ford Sierra's were cool it must be worth it.
So I got it home, levered it out of its cardboard cover (this months was a special) and a huge pile of rubbish fell out!
There was a huge poster of a Renault 5 turbo, reversible to be a huge poster of a girl in a bikini!! Nice one I thought (wonder if the wife will let me put it up in the bedroom?)
Then I got the usual pile of junk mail, quickly discarded that and started to read the Magazine.
First impression I got was that they had put the wrong magazine in the box! Naked women on almost every page!! As for the interviews with various models, well, why????
This is a motoring magazine remember!!
Do we really need to know if 'Emma Kohl' has ever slept with anyone famous?
It now seems that as theres a lack of 'hot hatches' to write about with Booming Systems, that Max power has resorted to selling soft porn in an attempt to make the magazine more entertaining.
I have nothing against porn when it is used correctly between consenting adults (or sad lonely men), but for me to bring a motor magazine home and my 4 year old daughter to ask why people in funny coloured cars are all naked is quite embarrasing!!
I can understand that people love thier cars and quite rightly are proud to show them off, especially after several thousand pounds spent and hours and hours work, but is the car not good enough on its own without a pair of models bum cheeks sticking out of the passenger door?
So what else do you get amidst the funny coloured motors and boobs?
Loads of adverts for wheels, exhausts ,mobile phone ring tones? ,and car radio's mmmmmmmmm well thats about all.......
but no, just flicking through it again there's something useful after all...... no sorry, it was a load of pictures of local women from Porthcall in Wales with thier boobs out and telling you thier inner most sex fantasies and how many people they have slept with!!!!!
I have to say that I feel a bit ripped off by paying almost Four Quid for this soft core porn/motor/advert magazine, I think it has lost its point somewhere along the line and no longer really is about how to make your car into a dream machine, but rather how to ogle the woman of your dreams!
So to summarise then:
Its about 70% half nude women
10% funny coloured cars
and 20% adverts for wheels, tyres and fat exhaust pipes!
I wont be buying it again as the wife saw this one and called me a perv!
Advantages: Good coverage of the featured cars, competitions, serious articles Disadvantages: Too much nudity, Price?, High expectations
...girls or the like. However, Max Power prefers to call them "Max Babes".
Now this is all well and good for the male majority (not all), but what about the female readers and those who are of an impressionable age? Well many people have written into the magazine to address this issue, but to no avail. The general view seems to be tough - if you don't like it, don't buy it!
What else it there?
There are the cars - the whole point of the magazine. ... ...as the best home-grown cars, Max Power also features cars from all over the world. This gives the reader a useful insight into what's hot elsewhere in the world of tuning and modifying. Most notable are those from Japan and America, as well as the rest of Europe.
The only problem I have with all of this is the fact that many of the feature cars are well out of the reach of the average reader. Gone are the days where many of the cars were brought ...

Advantages: Best cars, worldwide, well designed. Disadvantages: Amount of advertising, do we really need to see so many 16 year old girls breasts?, EMAPs editorial discretion is questionable.
Max Power magazine, the biggest name in the Tuning Magazine industry. For some reason, Max Power has risen to the top of the pile of this type of magazine, and is now read by hundreds of thousands of regular readers each month.
The staff line up isn't as impressive as the other magazines available, but a lot of those who work on magazines gained their reputation here at Max Power. Gez Jones (Fast Car) and Jon 'Proby' Walsh (Redline) are the noticeable ... ...and a feature car in Max is generally regarded as the pinnacle of recognition. Sure, to get a magazine feature in any magazine is a great achievement, but the sheer number of submissions Max Power attracts means they tend to get the 'cream of the crop'. Please note though, that their editorial discretion is not always assured, and the car you see in Max Power this month, was quite possibly the one you saw in Fast Car last month, or is also featured ...

...modified cars who all recomended Max Power to get ideas and advice of what to do to my car, and to see what other people have done to thier cars. After buying it for the first time, I was hooked by the whole car tweaking scene.
The beauty of this publication is the fact it has a little something for everyone. It has plenty of information on tuning and styling top end performance cars like Saxo VTR's etc, (for the lucky rich boys who own these fine ... ...cars is somewhat judgemental, but Max Power magazine talk about it as if it is the individual police officers fault, when clearly they are just following what theyve been ordered to do.
Secondly, Although i like fit girls as much as the next non-Dale Winton bloke, the constant use of page 3 girls with over inflated chests in this mag gets a bit boring. When i want a mag with pretty girls in it, i buy FHM. However, when i want a magazine with info ...

I buy this magazine because I like cars,I like to be different and I like my car to be different. If you want to carry out any sort of modification to your car, styling or performance increase, then this is the place to come to for ideas.
Don't take the magazine to seriously. It's written to be understood by teenagers, contains a lot of naked women and has a large number of premium rate numbers advertised in it. Look beyond all of this and you'll ... ...maxing (enhancing) your car. A lot of the cars that are featured in the magazine have had huge amounts of money spent on them. The sort of money you could buy a house with!! I respect people who can spend that amount of time and money on their cars - they do look good. I choose to spend my money on a house though. I do carry out small modifications to my car - air intake, exhaust, brakes, styling etc (totalling well under £1,000). I have found the ...

Advantages: Some good articles, staff cars Disadvantages: Poor writing content, some of the cars
I’ve been buying MAX POWER for about a year now and have to say that I’m fed up with it.
Don’t get me wrong there are some good articles and features to be
read, its just not enough to merit buying it. When they do serious reports on, say car crime or driving under the influence these can be very interesting.
There is a regular feature on new cars in which they test its handling and
performance, giving guides on how it could be improved and rating ... ...pictures and the cost.
MAX POWER is aimed at 17-25 year old males, even so the writing is
still too juvenile for my liking. The advice pages are frankly useless as all they do is tell you to contact some company you could have found yourself if you had looked through the masses of adverts.
The biggest joke is the letters page called write off, in which people write in about any old rubbish of no interest to most people.
MAX POWER does a regular ...

This is another mag about cars and tuning in the same vein as Fastcar and MaxPower. It has all the same features but with unknown models gracing their pages. There is sometimes something worth reading but my advice would be is to scan through before you pay so you dont waste you money. It is worth buying if you you dont get Max.. or Fast.. but why would you not buy these cos they are actually a lot better. It is improving as a mag and with time is will be OK but they might pull the plug if know one buys it. ...

Advantages: Cheap, fun and looks good Disadvantages: occasional poor quality plastics in interior
I think that driving should not only be practical and affordable but fun. I feel that the ZR encompasses all of these factors. Some say it has maxpower looks, well thats their opinion. It does have extended wheel arches and more aggressive bumpers than the Rover its based upon. The alloys suit the arches nicely without looking like an afterthought.
The interior of the car is basic but who needs a tv or a mini bar in a car. The front seats are snug and will hug you around corners, they are also padded enough to ensure that even with the stiffer sports suspension you arent shaken too roughly. The steering is direct and the grip is amazing, I think its the best i've felt in a car this size. The engine is pokey and fun, it has a pleasant burble at idle and opens to more of a roar after 3000 rpm. I dont ever feel that it is an unwelcome ...

This baby will blow the socks off pretty much anything slower than a Jaguar XJ220!!
I wouldn't recommend this car for everyday use as it is VERY tail happy in wet conditions. Excellent for track days thanks to huge amounts of power and wonderful brakes. Performance in a straight line should beat a standard Ferrari 360!
Headlight conversion is now a must, otherwise they tend to look a little dated.
