I first started buying 'Max Power' magazine after i bought my second car (a mk 5 ford escort) and realised that i wanted to do some stuff to this very run of the mill motor that would make it look and perform better. I knew some friends with modified cars who all recomended Max Power to get ideas and advice of what to do to my car, and to see what other people have done to thier cars. After buying it for the first time, I was hooked by the whole car tweaking scene.
The beauty of this publication is the fact it has a little something for everyone. It has plenty of information on tuning and styling top end performance cars like Saxo VTR's etc, (for the lucky rich boys who own these fine motors) plus it has plenty of info on mod-ing and tweaking older lower performance cars.Another plus point of this mag is the dual angles it comes from. It has info on tweaking engines/suspension/gearboxes etc, for those more interested in improving performance of thier cars, but on the other hand it also has many styling tips for things to do to the bodywork and sound and general looks of your car, for those more interested in the aesthetic appearance of thier motor (or those who cant afford the massive insurance premiums of a modified engine).
There are of course, as with everything, negatives to this product. I find the constant dissing of the police rather tiresome after a while. Yeah, i agree with the magazine that the police's attitude towards young people in modified cars is somewhat judgemental, but Max Power magazine talk about it as if it is the individual police officers fault, when clearly they are just following what theyve been ordered to do.Secondly, Although i like fit girls as much as the next non-Dale Winton bloke, the constant use of page 3 girls with over inflated chests in this mag gets a bit boring. When i want a mag with pretty girls in it, i buy FHM. However, when i want a magazine with info on tuning cars, i buy this. Im all for the odd picture of a fit bird to spice up a page that may not be totally filled with text, but sometimes they go rather over the top.
Overall however, this is a top magazine for those interested in this scene, and even those who arent really into it, and should be purchased by any car enthusiasts.
