What I want to say is how can you ever replace losing a full set of negative's? Especially it being our wedding, photograph's of such a special day. Despite all the stress and upset it caused my hubby and I can never see the photo's of the wedding cake which were taken by the in laws. My hubby and I didn't have luxuries at our wedding simply because we couldn't afford them. It was known that whoever turned up with a camera would show us the photograph's after and we would then decide if we wanted any copies.
This was mainly going to be between my parents and my hubby's parents. After the wedding my mum & dad took the film to be developed at Jessop's with no problems whatsoever. My hubby's mum & dad took the photo's to Max Speilmann's where weeks later there was no development of the film and the shop assistant said that they were having problems with the film and could we wait a little longer. A month after the manager finally told my mother in law that the film had been lost.
My husband and I were gutted no photo's from hubby's side of the family and they had taken some really good one's. Eventually one strip of photo's came back and my mother in law presented us with a really nice large framed photo which was free as a replacement from Max Speilmann's.

Despite all the stress and upset it caused my hubby and I can never see the photo's of the wedding cake which were taken by the in laws. I guess in an ideal world we would have been able to afford professional photographer's, but I guess that's just the way of the world and besides which my mum and dad have some lovely photograph's.
Other reports of Max Spielmann I have heard have said how disgusting and rude the staff are. I know of other people who have had photo's lost and error's happen and I have even heard of the staff blaming the customers. I believe it's a terrible place to work for as the staff are at a shortage and so are the manager's. This saying I have never personally worked in a Max Spielmann branch, but I have heard of people who have.
Max Spielmann also offers a 20 minute service which is a laugh because if you have 3 films I calculate that 3 x 20 = 60 at 60 minutes Max Spielmann 3 x 20 = 100 which equals 1 hour somewhere along the lines either I can't do the maths or Max Spielmann can't. If you take in 1 film for the 20 minute service you can be waiting anywhere between 35 minutes to 45 minutes.
I remember from our honeymoon in York we dropped a film off having to run and catch the train at a set hour Max Speilmann's suggested 20 minute drop off period was not available that day. Had it been available in that store at all? So we took our film to Boots with no problems whatsoever.
Max Speilmann's might have firms all around the UK, but what's the flipping use if there's a chance that your not going to get your film back? I mean yeah sure here you go Maxy have my film you can keep it. Come to think of it where does Max Spielmann keep all the lost films is he eating them? Or worse is he keeping them or is there a lost film heaven out there that I've never heard of. "Come back films all is forgiven".
Max Spielmann have branches in Manchester, Birchwood, Leeds, York, Schelmersdale, Prestatyn and Chester to name, but a few.
The thing with Max Spielmann is that they lure the customer in by offering really cheap prices, but then they get you to spend more than you really want and they don't deliver the goods. I don't think I have heard a good thing about Max Spielmann, but then one of you on Ciao might prove me wrong. I was actually surprised that nothing had been written in this category and I wondered if it was just because you hadn't heard of Max Speilmann's in which case I need to warn you. Or that you were just too polite to put what you really thought of the Max Speilmann's photography services. I'm sure the shop started with good intentions it's just that somewhere along the road it met the wrong people came under the wrong influence and lost it's good intentions.
I mean at the moment Max Speilmann's is offering real digital photo's for 15p WOW!
Max Spielmann claim to be the UK's Number One Film Processor. With over 160 branches throughout the UK.
Perhaps the fact that they are the number one film processor is because they have so many photography shop's, but from what I've heard they're certainly not popular with their customer's.
Shops are nicely presented, brightly coloured in an orange and blue colour scheme. They tend to lure the customer in by being nicely presented and the staff are in smart suits and all seem to want to help at first until you have purchased something. If you purchase something and it isn't right or something goes wrong then that is when they get their arrogant heads on.
I don't know about you, but I am just about fed up with these large franchise type businesses that promise the earth, but deliver nothing, but stress and the blame the customer.
My final words are if you want to keep your money stay away. Go to another smaller firm. Jessops are very good.
Advantages: Well the staff are ok Disadvantages: everything else
...My first gripe about Max Spielman is the fact that on their sign they claim that they can do 20 minute processing. I have never had any of my photographs ready for collection in anywhere near the specified time, also what they don't state is that for this 'so called' 20 minute service you have to have a bigger sized prints than the norm. I have these anyway but still have to wait at least 90 minutes or come back another day.
May times I have gone ... ...your information the discounts at Max Speilman are everyone elses normal prices), they also do a range of keyrings, t-shirts and mugs of any photograph you take into them which make great Xmas and birmthaday presents.
I hope that nobody else has sufered the experiences that I have with Max Speilman but I felt that you all had a right to know mine. This is a shop I will definately walk on by. : ( ...

Advantages: Friendly - sometimes Disadvantages: Lost prints, overcharging, lying.
I worked at a few Max Speilmann shops, and the odd Klick (owned by the same company and run the same) over eight months, and there are a few things I've noticed during my time there that would be helpful to potential customers.
- Staff are penalised for accepting 6x4 prints and will do anything to get you to upgrade to 7x5 (their 'standard') when you don't need to. They will tell you that they do not print 6x4s anymore - they do, just tell them ... ...you really must shop at Max Speilmann/Klick Photopoint, just make sure that you get what you originally went in for. Targets are strict and with the advent of digital processing at home, many shops need your money. I do hope this isn't the case throughout the country but put simply, I would never shop in any of the stores I have worked in. ...

Quick review of Max Spielmann Photo-Processing Shops
Just been to Max Spielmann in Beeston Nottingham 10.8.07. Charged 14p per photo (438 of them) when the window price is 5p per photo for 200+. Manageress said this did not come into force until 15th August 2007. Then why is it in the window and leaflets on the counter? Manageress very rude, said she felt like slapping customers round the face. Given full refund but told I could not have photos until the Thursday, then I would get the reduced price. Photos had been printed already, so I told them I would leave them and go to Boots for 6p each. Beware Max Spielmann they seem to say and charge what prices they like. Go somewhere reputable like Boots! ...

Visited Max Spielman photo shop in Halifax today with 3 disposable cameras with processing pre-paid. Asked if i could pay extra for a 1 hour service and was told that it is their busiest time of year and the photos would take exactly 1 week.
The sales assistant was most unhelpful and i did wonder if i had gone i with 3 films for developing to be paid for if they would have given me the one hour service. ...
