25 year old Mum to 18 month old Heather, a total bookworm in the third year of my English degree. Quite new to Ciao (despite joining a year ago) but slowly getting the hang of it! I'm ashamed of my first reviews from last year...ignore them, please!
Initially this carseat seemed more expensive than some others, but as soon as we investigated in the shops I could certainly see why. It seems to be a higher quality than other, cheaper carseats on the market, with an interesting design that I've never seen elsewhere.
There is no assembly or fiddling required - all you need to do when you get this home is have a browse through the instructions, then off you go! Fixing the carseat into your vehicle using a seatbelt is very easy - I tend to be very easily confused (embarrassing but true) but even I find this very straightforward and obvious.
The seat comes complete with a cushion insert so that younger babies can lie in a more horizontal position; much more comfortable for your little ones than having to sit further upright, where little heads could potentially flop forward. There is also a removable padded headrest, invaluable when your baby is tiny and wants to sleep in the car seat without having his or head bent right over!
Strapping baby into the five-point harness is very simple and secure, with the buckle well concealed - nowhere for fingers to investigate and get trapped. If you need to adust the straps at all this is very simple - pressing a button and gently pulling is all that's needed. Tightening the straps when in the car could possibly prove a little tricky, as the strap you need to pull would be resting on the seat, but generally speaking you wouldn't need to adust when already in the car.
We bought this seat to use with our Quinny Zapp (as previously mentioned), but I know it also fits other travel systems such as the Buzz. Fixing the car seat to the frame is very easy - just a case of sliding it onto the adaptors and listening for it to click into place. Removing it is equally straighforward - just press some buttons and lift.
There is a small area in the back of the seat which we found very useful for storing a carseat raincover (not included) - perfect to keep it to hand 'just in case'.
The canopy is an interesting feature of this seat - an unusual stretchy fabric with a slight sheen which hooks onto the handle, rather than folding out in a concertina like other canopies. It can also be hidden away in the seat itself, so well concealed that when we first bought the seat home I was convinced we didn't have one!
The biggest downside with this seat is that the fabric the seat itself is made of doesn't allow the child's skin to breathe as well as other cotton seats do so, on a hot day, your baby could get quite sweaty. I found taking our daughter out on very hot days quite worrying, as she seemed to overheat very easily when in the car seat - which unfortunately meant that I kept disturbing her when she'd dropped off in the car! However, this fabric is very easy to clean and the inevitable mess made by babies doesn't show up too much. It is wipe clean, so sicky moments are easily dealt with.
My daughter is six months old now and is only just beginning to fill the seat a little too snugly - and she's a very big baby. I would imagine that most babies would be very comfortable in this right the way up to the 9 month mark.
