Like most other expectant mums, I was completely bewildered by the selection of car seats on the market before my little boy was born. In the end I chose the Maxi Cosi Cabrio car seat as I felt it was the safest on the market and compatible with the icandy pushchair I had chosen. I am thrilled with my choice, it has been worth every penny.
My baby was only 5lb 11oz when born and although he was tiny, I felt he was very safe in this seat. It is very strong and safe but equally as important to me, my little boy absolutely loves this seat as it is really comfortable for him. He is now 6 months old and he was only ever cried twice in the car - he usually falls alseep within a couple of minutes! I have been known to take him round the block to calm him down. If he is awake in the seat and it is on a hard floor (say in a shop) he loves rocking himself backwards and forwards and there is a built-in sun canope which attaches to the handle - very handy indeed. As I mentioned, I bought an icandy pushchair and he is equally comfortable in the seat on the pushchair chassis as he is actually in the car
We bought the isofix base to go with the seat and although very expensive, it has been worth it's money to get the seat in and out of the car easily - especially when you are in a hurry or it is raining! It can be a little fiddly trying to strap the seat in otherwise but you do get the hang of it after a few attempts. If you can afford the base aswell then I definitely recommend it, but the seat is just as safe without. The only shame is that once he has outgrown the seat I don't believe the base is compatible with any other models.
I chose a neutral colour black reflection but also bought a blue Maxi Cosi footmuff (cosytoes) which is basically like a sleeping bag that fits inside the seat with holes for the straps and zips up around the side. If you have a winter baby (say from Sept - Feb) this is worth it's weight in gold. It's really warm and snug and no need for blankets to fall off. (It's cheaper to change if you need a differenent colour in the future too!) The footmuff is about £30 but I am so glad I bought it - I have also had many compliments. It's easy to upzip and pull back the top if the baby gets too hot (in the supermarket etc)
This isn't the cheapest seat on the market and is also quite heavy - especially with baby inside. I have steps outside my housebut so it is easier for me to carry the seat in and out of the car than bring the pushchair to and from the house. I am so pleased I chose this seat. Safety is paramount to me and whilst I have bought some cheaper/second hand things, the car seat was one thing I would not compromise on.
I am now looking ahead to his next seat that he will need in a few months time and I will not buy any other make than Maxi Cosi based on my experience so far. I hope he is just as comfortable in the new one!

Advantages: Fits Bugaboo Frog Pushchair, Mid-Range Price, Easy to install. Disadvantages: Strap for tightening harness can be tricky when fitted in car.
