After having the Primo Viaggio stage 0 carseat for our baby and then finding out that it scores very badly in Which? safety tests, we decided to do our research when choosing a stage 1 seat.
Our choice was between Britax and Maxi Cosi who are the bit two manufacturers when it comes to child carseats. From looks alone we really liked the Maxi Cosi Tobi as it looked well padded for a comfortable ride.
We tried a number of different seats in the back of the car and the Tobi seemed to be the easiest to fit and also the one that appeared the most secure once fitted. Unlike some of the other carseats, the seatbelt on the Tobi also goes around the base a the front, making it even safer.
It scored a massive 70% in the Which? tests and is one of their recommended car seats, At £165 it is a bit on the pricey side, but when it comes to your child's safety I personally think that it's worth it. I like the fact that there is a colour indicator on the buckle that lets you know when the harness has been altered correctly.

The proper functioning of the belt buckle and belt adjustment system is very important for the safety of the child. The most common reason that the buckle and/or belt adjustment system does not function properly is because it is dirty (from dust, grime, food particles, etc.). Make sure that the belt buckle stays clean by vacuuming out all dirt. In the instruction manual is a list of possible causes of function failure and possible solutions.
If you're into accessories then it is possible to buy coloured Summer covers that will add a bit of coloir whilst ensuring that your child doesn't get too hot. You can also buy a cup holder to fit onto the side and a playtray that can also be eaten off.
Overall, I think this is a great stage 1 carseat. The fact that it scores so highly on various safety tests means you can be confident that your child is well protected, as well as being comfortable on long journeys.
