...We needed a portable television that would not take up much room, be able to be used anywhere and have an earphone socket so it would not disturb everyone. Size and weight were the most important factors but obviously cost was also going to be high on the importance list. So after much head scratching the product of choice became the Maxim 1147. We chose this over other similar types on the basis of what it had to offer in terms of parts with it as well as it had a slightly larger screen than most of the others in the same price range. Advantages: Audio output (stereo phono), looks smart compared to other budget boxes
Disadvantages: No proper off switch, can get warm and can occasionally be unresponsive

...tends to get quite warm but I keep mine stood up on its side so it gets plenty of air flow around it (Less of a set top box and more of a set side box I suppose). So the answer to that is - yes it does get quite warm but I've never found that to be a problem. * Features * The Maxim is probably one of the most basic of set boxes you can get so there aren’t a great deal of features to talk about. I wasn't after a lot of features - I just wanted digital TV and digital radio. One of the good features it does have however is the stereo phono output sockets. This will enable you to plug the box into your home hi-fi and have the sounds come out of your stereo speakers - great for the digital music channels. Advantages: Inexpensive, Can Use As A PC Monitor
Disadvantages: Poor Sound Quality, Poor Viewing Angles

...I have recently purchased this product, around two weeks or so from Currys so decided to write a review and give my honest opinion on the subject. Previously I had a 42inch rear-projection TV but decided to get rid as it was too big for my bedroom. My intentions were to purchase a smaller television and hopefully have enough room for a reasonably sized desk to study at home. My plans didn’t go as expected and I found myself drinking the money away which I received for the rear-projection – Typical Student, I love to PARTAY!! Lol. So left with £125.00 in my back pocket I looked almost everywhere, online, supermarkets like Asda etc until I stumbled across what I thought was a bargain in Currys - A 15” Maxim 11 LCD television.
