James Patterson is well known for his writing skills as an adult?s author. 2 years ago, however, I had not heard of him, so when I first saw this book on the 3 for 2 offer in Waterstones, I read the back to see if this author was any good. And it sounded really inspiring and intriguing. Only, when I went in a few weeks later, I noticed all the James Patterson books everywhere and was surprised that the author had endeavoured into a child?s mind, ... ...author to write a children's novel. He grabbed my attention throughout this book, however there was one major problem, which was that the chapters were 1-3 pages long, so it took me forever to finish, because a chapter is one of the best places to stop reading your book for a day. This book has One hundred and thirty-four chapters + a Prologue and an Epilogue, so you can obviously tell why it took me ages to read.

And it sounded really inspiring and intriguing. Only, when I went in a few weeks later, I noticed all the James Patterson books everywhere and was surprised that the author had endeavoured into a child?s mind, as it is supposedly really quite hard for an adult's author to write a children's novel. He grabbed my attention throughout this book, however there was one major problem, which was that the chapters were 1-3 pages long, so it took me forever to finish, because a chapter is one of the best places to stop reading your book for a day. James Patterson has finished the whole children's series, and I am quite surprised, based on the fact that I hadn't even finished the first book before he'd finished writing and publishing all of the books in this series. This series is called "Maximum Ride". "The Angel Experiment" is the first novel in the series. I got quite annoyed at the end, as all your questions did not become resolved, that's left to the next book, or could it be left to the very last book? I really don't have a clue.
This book is about 6 children called, Max (This book is from his perspective), Fang, Iggy, Nudge, the Gasman and Angel. These kids are next to normal in most ways. But they have one major problem, and that is that they are 98% human, and 2% bird. They were brought up in a lab, but now they are roaming free. They have only one enemy: "The School". The School is the lab they had grown up in. Apart from that enemy, there are some people called Erasers. Well, okay, they aren't actually people. They work for The School. They had grown up in the lab as well, only they are wicked wolf-like creatures who have a taste for flying humans.
I really did enjoy this book, and I only had that problem with the fact that the chapters are really small. At times I felt like going to sleep and not bothering to read anymore of this book, I think I thought that way because I was finishing the chapters way too easily and just got bored seeing chapter after chapter after chapter, however I have to admit this is better suited for people who do not have a lot of time on their hands, and do not want to end up spending lots of time reading. Although, I could be quite wrong with that idea, due to the fact that this book can catch you inside it very quickly, and you struggle to come out of it. What I'm trying to get at is that you'll probably end up being really angry if someone interrupts your reading, I know I was, I threw a cushion at my brother for interrupting me, but he deserved it.
I wouldn't like to tell adults not to read this, because I'm sure they would love this book as much as children would. I'd class this as a teen fiction, though younger kids may enjoy it and I'm pretty sure all the adults would be as intrigued by this book than any kid. I can't really tell you who this book is for, exactly, as I'm in the middle now, 16. I reckon most ages would like this, but I'm telling you not to let a 5-8 year old to read it.
I totally recommend this to EVERYONE, even the people who do not read. As you may not like reading, based on the fact that some books are too long, or non actually holds you attention for long enough. However, this book has it all, Action, Horror, and adventure. You name a genre; I bet this book has it. Even romance (however it's later on and is only slightly there; it's quite surprising as you don't expect it).
So I command you to buy this book, I think it could be mildly an okay buy, but if you can get it cheap I totally have to tell you to get it! Thank you everyone for reading!

Review of Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment - James Patterson
Advantages: Very exciting, fast paced. Disadvantages: The next in the series isn't released yet
...Characters ***
Max - Maximum Ride, oldest of the gang and the main character. She is surprisingly easy to identify with due to her easy humour and obviously caring nature.
Fang - who always seems to remain calm in any situation. He is quite capable of arguing for the sake of it, but when it really matters he is there, backing up Max and the others.
Iggy - who became blind because of an experiment at the School which went wrong. He is also an excellent ... ...where bombs are involved.
Nudge - eleven years old and VERY talkative. She is probably the least fleshed out character, but then this is only the first volume of the series.
The Gasman - also known as Gazzy. A mischievous and very smart eight year old whose name is derived from his wind problem! His "gift" is that he can mimic almost any voice or sound. Angel - who is initially captured by the Erasers. She is the youngest at only six years old. ...

Advantages: A good general idea and storyline Disadvantages: Underdeveloped characters, annoyingly short chapters
...The story starts with Maximum Ride, a girl who was grafted with avian DNA, giving her wings and ultra-light bones, living with her five friends - Iggy, Fang, Nudge, Angel and Gasman (who share the same bird-like qualities) in a house by themselves.
They all grew up in a cruel institute called the School, where many kids like themselves are turned into mutants by evil scientists, eager to push the boundaries of science.
The 'Flock' , as they're ... ...fly is quite original, and there is lots of action and excitement over the pages.
All in all, I think that Maximum Ride has the potential storyline to become a good children's book, but James Patterson has to take more time developing his characters, and make his chapters longer. ...

Advantages: fast paced, great reading, never boring Disadvantages: can be read in 1 night, leaves questions such as what else was created
Storyline
The story line of this book is the tale of 6 children, who have an amazing power... the power of flight.
They are genetic "freaks", created by man by crossing human and avian DNA. These children start this story out in a hiding place, petrified of bieng found by the rest of humanity, as well as another "sub-race" also created by humans, by crossing human and wolf DNA, known to the children and us as the "erasers".
Both sub-species are ... ...to hunt down and kill their targets, and can ide themselves from the rest of humanity. This story takes us through emotional highs and lows, of fear, hope, comedy, betrayal, anger and (for some) sadness, especially when the youngest of this group of 6 is captured by erasers and taken back to the site of her "creation". The story also ends with a total shock, which i refuse to reveal, as it would completely spoil the whole book.

Advantages: Patterson's style of writing is simple and easy to understand. Its full of action and surprise! Disadvantages: THERE ARE NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maximum Ride is about six children, perfectly normal children- except for the fact that they are 2% bird and have wings. They are living in hiding, constantly on the run from Erasers (vile werewolf-like creatures and agents of the School).
Max, Nudge, Iggy, Gazzy and Fang are forced to venture to the heart of the fears and nightmares from their horrific childhoods at the School, when the youngest member of the flock- six-year old Angel- gets kidnapped ... ...a hell of a ride... MAXIMUM RIDE!!!
This exciting roller-coaster of emotions is full of action and surprise. Definitely a MUST-READ!!
ENJOY!!! :) Other advantanges of the FANTASTIC BOOK include the folloing:
- Patterson's style of writing is simple , therefore it is quick and easy to understand.
-Patterson has a great tendency to leave out irrelevent or unnecessary detail and does not linger on things like description of surroundings or of and ...

Advantages: Good book Disadvantages: Short chapters
The Angel Experiment is an action filled suspense novel by an extremely talented writer. James Patterson is able to keep the readers' full attention throughout the book using twisted hooks and an amazing storyline. The book ends with a cliff-hanger leaving readers hungry for the sequel "Schools out forever"that is yet to be released.
