Some people call me ignorant for using Maxtor, but I honestly only order Maxtor for my hard drives. Now the only downside to the Maxtor 500 GB is that it is an external drive that, if not careful, can overheat and cause connectivity problems, transfer speed issues, or just annoyance from when the usb gets knocked out. That being said, if you can get past the downside of have an external I would recommend this product to anyone not using a Mac. The only reason I do not recommend this to Mac owners is because Mac is the only type of computer that I myself will not touch. I have filled this thing up to about half it potential and when I do manage to full it up, I will write agian to let you know the outcome.
Advantages: Simple design, technically up to date, Disadvantages: Could have 5 years of warranty
...was really hot but the maxtor was just warm.
Luckily I did not go for the more expensive brother (onetouch 4) for further details read CNET reviews
I think as it is an external drive it should NOT be on constantly, I generally eject the hardware from th pc and it simply turns itself off (completely)<= I like this function.
Comes with 3 years warranty. Specs: 500gb, 7200rpm, 16MB/500GB cache buffer
Just go for it...

This product is amazingly fast when you copy small chunks of data (about 4 to 5 gb). It is very fast. But when you copy huge data, it heats up and crashes. I was copying over 70 GB of data from my old hard drive and I was unable to do it. I failed several time but when i did it in small ...
