I bought this HD in March(4 months ago) for an upgrade to my older 80Gb HITACHI. Similiar to all new harddisks, you could hardly hear a sound when equiped in PC when its doing heavy reading and writing. (Yeah, I'm addicted to BitTorrent downloading, my PC is kept running for almost 7x24, downloading Gbs of stuffs at speed from 600k/s to sometimes 1200k/s, uploading always keeps above 700k/s)

Now it has been 4 months, this hardisk outperformed any other I have owned before. I remember my Hitachi and Segate ones started to making bigger and bigger noise since 2~3 months. (im a HD eater! ha) And the Hitachi one even started to temperorily shut-down with werid noise.

This Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200 GB has no symptoms as above yet. It is still working as original conditions as bought 4 months ago. Satisfied. My friend also said serivce from Maxtor is good when ur harddisk drops anchor, tho I havent got a chance to test that.(Dont want to! )
